Haha, yes. He was like a lost little puppy looking for its owner--which is funny because Goren seems like the dominant one in their partnership, but in a lot of ways I think Eames is kind of subtly in charge.

ohmigosh I ship Tonks/Charlie now I mean that makes so much SENSE.

Besides, Remus doesn't need to be paired with anyone. Sirius, Draco, Luna, Neville, George, Fred, Slughorn, McGonagall, and Seamus never had major romantic relationships in the books but they're basically a coalition of my favorite characters.

A Wider Melody
Dame Wordy Lie

Those are my favorites. :)

Seriously, it's not an urban myth. It's when there's a clear attraction between two people. This is usually visible by small body language cues like touching someone a bit longer than friends would, longer eye contact, one or both parties fiddling with stuff nervously.

It's not like an exact science, but it's definitely a thing.

And why would it be an excuse for bed behaviour?

If both parties are single and interested, there is no issue. If one of both parties are involved with someone else, that still doesn't mean you jump each other like animals. I had chemistry with a friend and it's not like I went to have an affair.

What you say is strange to a lot of us because we do not just randomly turn off feelings.

Pretty much what every else has said. For me the two biggest annoyances are when:

1. A estranged/missing parent comes out of nowhere to reconcile with their child. They have one episode together. And then the parent dies. I see this coming a mile away and do not give a fuck.

2. The audience is attacked by an army of violins over the tiniest things. I go deaf and do not give a fuck.

To be fair, you post a lot of comments and use the same icon everytime.

Re: Rec me sci-fi books, pleaaaaaase?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
well, these are all pretty obvious and you may have read them, but just in case you haven't.

i loved "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury.

if you're looking for something that you can pick up and put down and not get too heavily invested in, i would recommend "Isaac Asimov: The Complete Stories". it's a compilation of his short stories and is quite fun to read.

"Treason" by Orson Scott Card...has some fantasy elements to it as well.

Haha, I love-hate it too! There are things about it that really bother me, and I can complain about it at length, and yet I still just absolutely adore it.

For me, I listened to the music a lot before really... knowing what it was about, so watching it was interesting? Like, oh, I finally know what's going on. But for me the music and singing are a huge part of it. But yeah actually watching it is... time consuming, haha. And I still haven't seen it in person, just a recording. Someday...

Sorry, I'm just rambling. I'm glad to find someone here who likes these operas too~

Re: Abandoning shipdoms

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still a Rumbelle shipper. But I honestly don't get why people ship Emma/Hook. Think they're hot or whatever, fine. But work as a couple? Then again, I'm weirded out by people shipping Hook with anyone but Milah, not because they're "true love," but because they were able to stop being selfish for each other. Hook with anyone else feels like a waiting game until the other person either kicks his ass for being an ass, or gets hurt somehow, or both, because his ability to care for other people seems so limited in the first place.

that's literally almost never what the actual content of the complaint is, though

perhaps it would be better if they phrased it as "this thing is clumsy or bad in its attempts to get me to feel this emotion" but we live in a deeply imperfect world

Nope, actually. Faust only wanted 2 alicorns. That's it. Only 2.

Then Cadence came along. And now Twilight.

I wasn't in the ATLA fandom in its heyday, but my OTP for that show is Zuko/Katara and I cringe a little bit because every time that ship comes up it's in the context about how crazy its fandom used to be lol

I was never looking for relationship when I actually started having a relationship. Maybe that's the exception in the other extreme, but it's a spontaneous thing for me.

You must be keeping out of the stupid parts of the internet, then. Granted nobody in the comments above is saying that.

This is totally in the realm of headcanon, but maybe Molly (or Arthur, etc.) simply isn't trained for that type of magic?

I mean, think about it. You have Wizarding tailors and so on, and people can be better or worse at Charms, Transfiguration, Defense, etc. It's fairly safe to assume that there are some areas of magic that different people are good or bad at, like some people are good at math or writing or whatever.

And a piece of clothing is pretty complex if you're making it from scratch, more so if you want it to look better than a hand-me-down (which is presumably the goal here). Well, she could just buy new clothing and duplicate it, yes, but maybe tailors/stores put anti-duplication charms on their clothing so that they'll still have business? The charm could be broken but I doubt the mother of seven or something kids has the time, energy, or patience to devote to doing so.

About Pacific Rim, it's directed by Guillermo del Toro. That should convince some people to see it.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-03-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes and no. They aren't showing life in the Soviet Union, of course, but they're getting little things right so far. I want to see how they do flashbacks to life back in the USSR. I'm mostly going on my parents' opinions on things (one thing the show is not accurate about is having the head Russian diplomat with a Polish accent, because they never would have been trusted to hold a position like that), but they seem to be impressed, which is really rare when they see America-made Russian shows or movies.

(Both my parents were incredibly impressed by how plausible they felt the Nina-caviar-smuggling thing was, for some reason. But also I showed my mother a scene or two and she got one look at Elizabeth and said, "Oh yeah, that's the face of a fanatic.")

I don't agree with you but I think we've argued about this before on here so:

sup, how's things
