Abandoning shipdoms

Any ships or characters you guys have ended up sort of distancing yourself from because of the amount of crazy radiating from them?

I personally don't admit how much I ship Dragon Age: Origin's Alistair with the Warden, or Cullen with Amell because of the really intense, crazy shippers that follow along.

Rumpel/Belle from Once Upon a Time. Reminds me way too much of similar fanbases like Chuck/Blair from Gossip Girl.

I'm also not fond of Emma Swan/Captain Hook from the same show, and I hate that some of their shippers are turning Hook into a woobie and turning Emma's other love interests into villains (that are actually good in the show, not like, say, Regina) to make their ship work.

I'm still a Rumbelle shipper. But I honestly don't get why people ship Emma/Hook. Think they're hot or whatever, fine. But work as a couple? Then again, I'm weirded out by people shipping Hook with anyone but Milah, not because they're "true love," but because they were able to stop being selfish for each other. Hook with anyone else feels like a waiting game until the other person either kicks his ass for being an ass, or gets hurt somehow, or both, because his ability to care for other people seems so limited in the first place.

I've distanced myself from the fandom in general for this very reason.

It helps that I've separated the pairing so I enjoy it in fandom but don't see it in canon, but still this fandom is nutso and can ruin anything given time.

Johnlock, my god are those people crazy. That, and when a ship is that popular it gets hard to sort the worthwhile stuff from endless spam. I only follow reapersun on tumblr, which seems to give give me my fix.

This. Some of those fans are just...vicious and bitter, and I don't get it.

(But then, I like my fandoms made out of rainbows and ships for all. I don't get a lot of ship bashing, ship wars, etc.)

If I'm going to distance myself from crazy shippers, usually it's going to be the most popular slash ship in the fandom, but occasionally it'll be the most popular het ship instead.

I actually liked Zuko and Katara as a couple. I just couldn't stand Zutarians (sounds like the name of an alien species in old pulp science fiction).

I never knew Warden/Alistair had an annoying fanbase. Once upon a time I visited the BioWare forums and I read a bit of fic here and there, but...I guess I somehow avoided the worst of it. (I ship my dwarven Warden with Ali. :p)

Arthur/Eames from Inception is the only time I can remember growing to dislike a pairing I shipped.

But usually if I don't like a fandom I'll just stay away from it and that'll be that. *shrugs*

Dean/Castiel. I still ship it but I don't venture into fandom spaces anymore because of deluded fans claiming that it's canon or going to be, what happened to the self-aware shippers?

A:TLA, all of it.I adore the show with all my heart but I specifically stayed away from shipping anything because it was a warzone.

Also I ship Klaine from Glee (yea,I know, sue me) but I take that fandom in small doses too, because there's a lot of batshit insane there too.

Ps: I am by default a multishipper on most shows, even though I have my OTP's and OT3's. An extra reason to avoid wank and ship wars.

I wasn't in the ATLA fandom in its heyday, but my OTP for that show is Zuko/Katara and I cringe a little bit because every time that ship comes up it's in the context about how crazy its fandom used to be lol

Uh well. In the vein of BioWare ships, I really adore FemShep/Garrus, but I try to distance myself from a good chunk of its fans. I met lots of great fans of the ship (plus reeeally good fanworks), but a whole lot more crazy ones (fan and fanworks included).

Yep. I actually was convinced to ship them by a friend, but I won't actually admit I like their ship because of how crazy demanding their shippers are. I could swear I remember a thread about how BioWare should make it possible to have hybrid babies. Maybe that was Talimancer stuff...

Same with Thane/Shepard. I was always accepting of Thane dying of his illness, but you were NOT allowed to say that to his shippers.

Heero/Duo. I got into Gundam Wing when I was thirteen, and that ship got me into some really bad habits that were absolutely endemic in the shipdom, like ukeification (Duo's number came second! He had long hair! Must be the bottom!) and bashing female 'rivals'. Twenty-six-year-old me kind of wants to slap thirteen-year-old me, then go find Relena and apologise...

I'm not in GW fandom any more, but I still have a lingering fondness for the ship (when done right) and still have a bunch of art saved for it. (And I want to rewatch it as an adult, since I suspect I'll actually really like Relena now.) Just. The fans....

Sansa/Littlefinger. Though I'm not sure it's entirely accurate to say I abandoned it, because I was never fully in it. I read the books and went hmmmm... Then found the fandom and one particular writer (I'm sure she isn't the only one) who was so fucking sanctimonious about how AWFUL the books' treatment of female characters was, while at the same time she was writing pedofic. The hypocrisy just made me roll my eyes and leave.

I actually don't really like him, yet the ship appealed to me? I certainly don't care for his fanbase, and while I love Darcy, I got tired of what a self-insert she was becoming in fanworks.

I did, however, discover an interest in Sif/Thor.

It was fun at the beginning, but now all the crazy tinhat stans made me die of second hand embarrassment.

And Klaine were so adorable, and then the writers fucked them up with the stupid cheating storyline.

Does Cullen act differently if you play as a human v elf mage? I've only played as an elf and he still got a big crush on me. Then again the fandom in general seems to like human characters a lot more than I do (3 playthroughs... 3 elves...)

I think I'd be more into Utena/Anthy as a pairing if it weren't for the vocal minority of fanatics who will collect and post EVIDENCE that Utena/Anthy is CANON, you have to be BLIND if you don't agree! LOOK at this frame that was cut from the end credits!!! Bonus points if they call people homophobes if they prefer to friend-ship U/A.

In the Slayers fandom, it's not so much the rabidness of the shippers as the consistently bad characterization in the fanfic. I don't know if it's just because Xellos is my favorite and so I notice the OOC-ness more, or if he actually is the most frequent victim, but writers have an unfortunate tendency to write him as either angsty and lovestruck (I haven't read Twilight, but he still tends to remind me of Edward Cullen in those fics) or as Mr. Evil Rapist (which would at least be possible in terms of canon, but still pretty far from his normal personality).
