I think I'd be more into Utena/Anthy as a pairing if it weren't for the vocal minority of fanatics who will collect and post EVIDENCE that Utena/Anthy is CANON, you have to be BLIND if you don't agree! LOOK at this frame that was cut from the end credits!!! Bonus points if they call people homophobes if they prefer to friend-ship U/A.

In the Slayers fandom, it's not so much the rabidness of the shippers as the consistently bad characterization in the fanfic. I don't know if it's just because Xellos is my favorite and so I notice the OOC-ness more, or if he actually is the most frequent victim, but writers have an unfortunate tendency to write him as either angsty and lovestruck (I haven't read Twilight, but he still tends to remind me of Edward Cullen in those fics) or as Mr. Evil Rapist (which would at least be possible in terms of canon, but still pretty far from his normal personality).

Nah, English is my first language. The word "misandry", I learned by randomly browsing Wikipedia when I was like twelve and the word stuck in my mind because I had an OC that hated men. I didn't start hearing the word "misogyny" until like high school when I started learning more about gender issues; before then the only word I knew to describe misogyny was "sexism." /coolstorysis (Huh, my spell check recognizes it.)

I can and do deny that that is misandry. It is unpleasent of course, but boys, even abused boys grow into men, and men, at best, are allowing abuse of all women by their nature, if they aren't commiting the actions themselves.

Yeah, no. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt at first, but that is going way too far. It is downright disgusting for a grown woman to say something like that about little boys, perpetuating the abuse of ANYONE is ALWAYS a problem that needs to be dealt with, and the fact that boys grow into men does not make that comment the least bit more forgivable.

I think I've actually switched my ships a little bit. I used to think that Dave/Karkat was totally bleh and I was all about John/Karkat and now it's the opposite (I finalllly started shipping Dave/Karkat after one of the recent updates)

This. They were the only canon couple I could really get into.

Misandry is hatred of men. Hatred of men exists. Ergo, misandry exists.

You can say it's a smaller problem (and I'd agree), you can say it's less important (but I'd ask you why we should compare; it's not a competition), you can say it's not important at all (but I'd definitely disagree), but you can't say it doesn't exist.

By the way, you seem to have "men" mixed up with "MRAs". They are not the same thing.

As I'm sure someone in the thread above me has already mentioned, JKR only decided to kill Remus at the last minute as a replacement for Arthur dying so it wasn't *designed* to be a cheap device, at least.

I think the manga being so good and that older female/younger male relationships are waaaaay more rare than the older male/younger female ones in fiction helps.
