you can know a lot about history or you can know a lot about hetalia

it's pretty much mutually exclusive

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people are very good at doublethink. They can know a lot about both if they want to.

I don't know how many of them there are.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Then how do you explain the fact that there are entire blogs dedicated to pointing out historical inaccuracies in Hetalia, and many of these blogs are run by Hetalia fans?

It is entirely possible to both like something and acknowledge its flaws.

Oh, nationalism. You're the funniest part about Hetalia fandom (from outside).

I mean, you're totally right, Hungary isn't Germanic at all and anyone who includes it in there is pretty dumb. But I am just endlessly entertained by Internet nationalism esp when combined with anime and shipping. I mean, even the concept of having a Germanic family is pretty hilarious to me, if I'm honest.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
How's that nationalism?

I don't like it either, because it looks so out of place.

But that picture is absolutely adorable.

You know one of my favorite things Hetalia fans like to say? "Guise I found out my family is actually Prussian!!!"

now that's hilarious.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
is this unique to Prussia or does it happen to all the countries?

Martin Freeman, invertebrate British actor, will star in the 2014 remake of The Blob.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-04 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
If I'd said, at any point in my life "I'm Prussian and proud" (which would actually work, considering where I was born and where I live, but yeah, Prussia is not exactly a thing anymore?) my grandfather would have been very cross with me, because he was Bavarian and had this typically Bavarian hobby of dislike the Prussian.

Hungary IS part of their family in Hetalia, though. She is married to Austria and was part of his household while Italy was little, and she grew up with Prussia... so it's canon for the comic, if not for world history.

Austria-Hungary was a thing in real history, you know.

i think this is why she's included so often in these group shots, not because the artist thinks she's germanic but because of austria-hungary relations both in hetalia and in the real world.

THANKYOU

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I assume people put her there because her primary interactions in canon are with Germanic characters?

Sometimes she's just there because she's in a relationship with Austria though? In that situation it's sort of like having an 'in-law' in the picture.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be scandalized, but I only found out a few months ago that English is, in fact, a Germanic language.

Yeah, I felt dumb.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-05 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you somehow miss the fact that the predominant group in England is Anglo-Saxon?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hetalia is about world history?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
No, not really. It's about making fun of national stereotypes, and sometimes it mentions historical facts that Himaruya finds interesting.

Only the stupid fans think it's about actual history.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Does it do it anytime anything happens or just when they have replied to you?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I see the same guy copy-pasted like six times, just with different hairstyles and once with glasses. Oh, anime...

I think including Sweden and Denmark is weirder tbh even though Swedish and Danish do have Germanic roots. No, Hungary is not a Germanic country and Hungarian is not a Germanic language, but the character has stronger ties to the German family than any other group of countries in the actual canon due to her relationship with Austria and weird frenemies thing with Prussia. Denmark and Sweden have no real ties to the Germanics in the actual comic.

Now, if a fanart is going for historical accuracy, yeah it's weird unless they're going for representing the Dual Monarchy, but for something cutesy like your example? Yeah no it's reasonable.
