Yeah, cause that'll happen. After the backlash with a casually mentioned gay character in Paranorman, I doubt another animated movie will have a gay character. At least not for a few years.

Not ALL of fandom hated her...mostly just the really loud ones (and then there were those who didn't hate her exactly, but they either just didn't like her much or had gripes with her storyline). Usually in fic I see authors either ignore her or throw her a bone by having her in a nice side pairing with Lancelot or sometimes Morgana (aw yiss).

Fire Emblem? Robin? If so: Do it anyway, Anon. Honestly, so far there have been few if any things that have the tactician as a legitimate character in his own right, and at least in FE13 he's his (or her) own character. So long as you stick with the consistent characterization of him/her presented in the game, I think it would really just impress people (vs. turning them off).

If not, I'd still say to do it anyway.

I agree with a lot of this. I felt like BioWare *really* pushed Liara on players, especially in Mass Effect 3. She's not a terrible character on her own, but the way they did it kinda made me resent her regardless, and I can never ever romance her as a result because her creepy obsession squicks me out. No matter how much I go renegade with her, it always seems like she has this unrequited love for my Shepard. :(

I have never cared if my fantasy crushes are married, it's a fantasy, I can do whatever I want in my fantasies. People who have fandom crushes need to remember to have their dividing line between fandom and reality, and that basically means staying the hell away from a married individual.

Though that wife sounds a bit insecure and I feel bad for her if she can't handle her husband's fame.

I trust precisely none of the current (or past tbh) writers of the show to do a decent job of writing a female Doctor.

And it brings up some ideas about gender being fluid (because if the Doctor is always the same person, then he has always been male in the past and would be male in the future regardless of his biology unless you want to explore gender fluidity) which would probably be completely mishandled and yeah. It's opening a can of worms that would be poorly handled.

So I'd rather just focus on writing complex female companions. That is to say, I don't think the Doctor is necessarily more special or more important than the companions, so in order to have a great female character on the show, the Doctor doesn't need to be a woman.
