He was making a dig at Clooney, not the little girl. It was pointing out Clooney's creepy thing o dating women who are usually in their 20s.

Yeah, I'm gonna agree here. I think people are undermining their point when they try to say he was making a joke that was referencing child abuse. I found maybe two of his jokes funny, but he was clearly making a joke at how Clooney dated girls half his age.

Doesn't matter. Still a joke about child molestation and still not funny.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
um I thought he was terrible and not funny but No. That joke was not about child abuse. It was about George Clooney/other actors only being interested in women under the age of 25. There are a lot of years between the age of consent and 25 and the joke wasn't suggesting that 9 was included. Stop reaching. It's not necessary, there was enough shit wrong with his hosting gig, we don't need to reach for more.

She's a child. His joke was about Clooney having sex with her. Hense, it is a joke about child molestation, no matter the context or the actual reason for the joke. That isn't reaching. He could have picked someone who was just past the age of consent to make the joke with. Making the joke with a 9 year old is not funny.

Did you hear the part of the joke that said "she's still too young for Clooney"? Because that kind of makes all the difference.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's still a sexual joke involving a specific young child. If they were targeting Clooney, they could have completely left her out of it.

+1

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't in the joke, though. The joke was "Only eleven years until she's too old for Clooney."

There was absolutely no mention of a lower limit.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well damn, we were all children once. Does that mean everyone who has sex is a child abuser?

How does that even make sense? No, only adults who have sex with children are child abusers. That girl is currently a child and Clooney is currently an adult. If the joke were about two people who were currently adults, it would not be a joke about child abuse.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
The problem for me with that joke wasn't the Clooney bit, and bloody hell, can't people see that Clooney is in the closet?

Anyhow I felt it was a really mean joke to make when the child was in the audience, poor little kid. How are her parents gonna even explain it to her in a way that she won't feel hurt by it?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm usually the first to scream over any hint of abuse toward children but please misinterpret harder, sweetie. Whatever makes you feel more self-important and smart.

I'm well aware of what he meant by the joke, but my point is that his intent doesn't really matter. Jokes about an adult having a relationship with a child are not funny regardless of the intent behind the joke.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, okay. I think you're doing this on purpose now. In no shape or form was it said that Clooney likes children. Younger women, yes. So try to grasp that.

She's a child. The specific person mentioned was a child. And while the target of the joke was Clooney, it still wasn't cool or funny or okay.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah you're doing this on purpose. I'm getting away from your crazy now, kthxbye
