Fire Emblem? Robin? If so: Do it anyway, Anon. Honestly, so far there have been few if any things that have the tactician as a legitimate character in his own right, and at least in FE13 he's his (or her) own character. So long as you stick with the consistent characterization of him/her presented in the game, I think it would really just impress people (vs. turning them off).

If not, I'd still say to do it anyway.

Fire Emblem was my first thought, too. I even made Robin a girl in order to marry her to Chrom because I just assumed that was the most canon option. Their actual supports really let me down so I'm eager to play again with a male tactician, since I hear they're different (I guess they'd have to be). Either way shipping Chrom/Robin is just as canon to me as Chrom/Anyone so why not?

Yeah, the female and male tactician, despite sharing a lot of the same dialogue, seem to have completely different personalities. Personally I prefer the male Robin.

As an aside, this secret was so long I think most people just skipped over it, tbh.

I am so transparent. Yes, it's Robin. I'm trying to stick with canon characterization especially since I've seen stuff on FFnet where people aren't.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of people on FFn who are just writing self-inserts like they were back with FE7. If you stick with canon characterization I'm sure it'll go over well! I actually thought m!Robin was really, really well-characterized, and I found myself thinking that if Mark in FE7 had been written the same way (with actual dialogue of his own/etc) the whole "tactician is sorta you" idea might have gone over a lot better!

That said, yay! A Fire Emblem secret! Hurrah! I am quite pleased. :D

I tend to avoid FFn like the plague, mostly because the quality has gone down a lot. Not everything, just, Sturgeon's Law/Sturgeon's Revelation really applies there.

Also M!Robin & Chrom's supports are ridiculously ship-worthy, even for a JRPG.

I love all the supports in that game

I kind of hate it when people tag their pairings like this instead of with the fandom's ship name just because it's more crap that I have to add to my Tumblr Savior if I don't like the pairing. Some of the names/phrases are cute, but it gets annoying.

OP

I haven't seen anyone on Tumblr shipping this yet to know how they'd tag it but I would throw in the character names as well. If it turns into an extended fic like I think it will I would probably make a sideblog for it.

I don't know what game you're talking about, but you're not alone. I never see players characters as me - even when I'm 'supposed' to - and honestly I think some "blank slates" are more fleshed out and fuller characters than other characters who aren't meant to be a 'player stand in'. Sometimes I think people forget characterization can come through gameplay even if they don't get lots of blatant characterization through interactions with other characters.

...This got a bit tangential, sorry. But I feel your pain.

Trying to use them as self-inserts takes me OUT of the game so :U

My video-game characters are never me.

Except for Baldur's gate, because I really am a half-orc spawn of Bhaal.

Now I am fondly remembering Anomen's opening line to a female Charname in Baldur's Gate 2 (a customisable player character game - hence "Charname", because that's what is in the dialogue codes to be replaced with the designated name). If it's a pairing name based on dialogue, I'd name the Pairing "Cesspool". Because that opening line is something like "Fair Lady! What brings you to this cesspool of corruption?".

In fact for a long time "Cesspool" was my personal nickname for Anomen.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-03-03 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
It is based on dialogue! At one point the two characters swear to be two halves of a greater whole (it's almost like they were trying to make people ship them). So the tag would be 'otp: two halves of a whole' and I may have just given myself away if anyone actually checks the tag.
