So, the official designs for the Equestria Girls was finally shown. Also, the name of the 'mask' pony was released-and it points to her being a new character in the show (Maybe). She's a unicorn named....*drum roll* Sunset Shimmer. Twilight Sparkle/Sunset Shimmer. Clever Hasbro, clever.

They are slightly better then the prototype designs. Slightly. Fire remains the solution.

Edit: this does confirm the previous leak is legit, since those designs are obviously being used.

The ears are...weird. I hope they don't keep those in the show.

They've gone the furry route. God help us all

I preferred the earlier design where they were just humans with odd skin coloration. Though think this whole thing looks horrible.

At least it looks like "they go to another world and turn into humans" has been dropped.

It's either: A whole new show that just uses the MCs from FiM.

or

They go to the human world for whatever reason and -slightly- turn human. I don't see how this would work, as there's no way no one wouldn't notice they're not human.

There's also a rumor going around that they aren't being voiced by their VAs either. Hmmmm.

Sunset Shimmer would restore the unicorn/earth pony/pegasi balance. With god-princess Twilight as Alicorn representation.

I am conflicted. I don't think it will end well no matter what, but if it is "they go and become hideous mutants" that'd make it 80's cartoon plot bad. So bad it might be good again. Cartoon by ed wood. But I doubt it.

Considering her name is so similar to Twilight's, I'd assume Sunset Shimmer would become her Luna. Then again she could just be a recolor toy that Hasbro slapped together. Twilight is the only one who doesn't have a mask toy. I think it's been mentioned somewhere that they probably just didn't want to make another Twilicorn toy and went with a recolor. /Oh well.

I got no idea bout that. The leak that told us the other stuff (the one anon yesterday didn't seem to believe them but the character designs being confirmed just make me think it's more legit then ever that leak is real) said nothing about sunset in any way. Just that something big was coming season for that made alicorn twilight seem like nothing in comparison, though that may well have been equestria girls they were talking about.

I would hope that if Twilight got a counterpart, like the Luna to Celestia, it would be a pony themed after sunrise/dawn.

The bronies I know think this is a fucking disaster. And I think they are specifically trying to NOT appeal to that market.

I dunno how much little girls and tweens are going to like this compared to horses though. The monster high girls were freaks in a more aesthetically pleasing way.

Oh. Oh, that's probably why. The werewolf/were-cats/were-whatevers in Monster High have animal ears. This is looking more and more like a MLP-Monster High mash-up (heh)

You know with that art style, if they'd just done "look like humans" it would have been really cute. I like the hair and clothes. Not such a fan of the wings, skin tones and ears. (Also, it's inconsistent. If Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash keep their wings, where are Twilight and Rarity's horns??)

They do look a lot like Monster High characters, though. The wonky proportions, the huge eyes, the animal ears.

I'm kind of annoyed that Rainbow Dash, AJ, and Fluttershy are all wearing short skirts. AJ works on a farm, Fluttershy works with animals, and Rainbow Dash is highly athletic. Plus it seems OOC for Applejack and Fluttershy to wear skirts that short, Fluttershy because a skirt that short would net her a lot of stares, and AJ because she works on a farm.

For that matter, I know they're trying to keep the manes + tails aesthetic, but what's a speedster/athlete doing with hair that goes down to her ankles? Or a girl that works on a farm and (probably) around heavy machinery? Or someone who cooks for a living?

And what's with those weird cheek cutie mark tattoo things? They look ugly. They might have been better if they were smaller and more subtle but... the marks are already on their clothing, and it isn't like we're going to see them out of it on a kids' cartoon. Why bother?

At least the poses are in-character. At this point, the only thing that can save it is good writing. Do we have any clues on that?

The fuck do you think? This was made on a hasbro initiative. None of the voice actresses we care about sofar. Different animation studio. No Lauren bringing it all together.

This is gonna be the tween version of Gen 3. You fucking watch.

Eh. I want to give it a chance, mostly because it seems a tad hypocritical for fans of My Little Pony to judge a show as "girly crap" before they've seen a minute of it. The designs have changed from what we saw before, they might change again. The show might end up being really awesome. Like everything else this fandom freaks out over, we're gonna have to wait and see.

I find the hypocrisy fucking hilarious. The MLP Brony fandom was built upon people accepting that they were watching a show outside their own demographi and enjoying something despite the criticism they'd receive for it otherwise. The basis for it was love and tolerance of one another regardless of what they enjoyed.

Yet here the Bronies are crying and whining because Hasbro has done something different and new with the property. It's so ironic I can't help but feel some sort of pity for their way of thought.
