Wearing hair up for work

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you guys do it?

My hair falls a little past my shoulders and I'm growing my bangs out they're just past my ears and will stay in a high ponytail for maybe an hour before I'll have to readjust it. I cant figure out a cute way to wear it yet. There are little bits that like to stick out over my ears I'm always pinning back with bobby pins and the whole look is kind of utilitarian and plain. Once I braided my bangs into my hair but it looked like a little girl was playing with my hair before work.

There are styles that include wearing them down to kind of frame your face when the rest of your hair is pulled back.

No matter what I do, and no matter how nice I make my pony, it always ends the same way-With bits of hair falling every which way. I look like a mess after work myself. LOL.

My hair is longer (like bra strap length), but I used to twist it up and secure it with a claw clip. It was fairly boring, but it worked as far as keeping my hair out of my face all day.

growing your hair out shouldn't just meant you aren't cutting it and end up looking a mess...you should get trims which will allow your hair to fall naturally and be styled in a neat manner until it is the length you desire - it's a gradual process

I have hair to my mid-back but have to wear it up for work too... and I find that I readjust it constantly lol. I don't think there's a way to prevent it from sticking out everywhere.

eta: on growing out bangs, I pin them straight back away from my face. they're long enough now that they could probably be caught in the ponytail, but I've gotten so used to clipping them back that I just keep doing it. It works well :)

When I had my hair long, I'd sometimes do a half-pony - I'd wrap the hairtie around twice, but the third time, I wouldn't pull the hair all the way through, so it would make a loop. You can pull it with the loop on top and the tail underneath, which is a nice clean look, or pull it so the tail is on top for a spunkier sort of look. Maybe use a bit of hairspray so it doesn't deflate terribly. And you can pick up some inexpensive cute clips (the triangular-ish snap kind) for the fly-aways.

You can also do a quick bun (twist the hair up and around itself, tuck the tail under, hold it all together with a regular hairtie, maybe pin it down with bobby pins, and spruce it up with a cute scrunchie), or pigtails, if you don't mind the look. Or pigtail buns.

I'm not very good with "mature" looks or whatever :|a I have a fondness for more childish things because they seem more fun...

I don't really remember as it's been a long while since I've had hair that length (it's currently approx elbow length right now) although I did just cut some bangs after years of not having any (I'm pretty pleased, wished I did it a lot sooner).

I'm pretty sure I twisted it up into a claw clip a lot of time. I suggest: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shoulder+length+hairstyles

This gal has a vid for styling bangs using braids, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ2oNUipInU

If you're trying to get it really long like mine, you want to watch/join: http://longhair.livejournal.com/ and http://www.longhaircommunity.com/forums/indexvba.php for growing and hair care tips. I love them for the inspiration and info they provide. The sooner you start taking care of it properly, the less damage you'll need to get rid of and the sooner you'll have long hair.
