Horror night.

Boyfriend and metamour brought Sinister for movie night and at the moment he's playing Project Zero. Other girlfriend and I will not sleep easy tonight. We were going to see something cute and funny later to lessen the scary. What do you guys use to shake off the fear after watching/reading horror?

Simply make fun of the movie. Most horror movies are ridiculous once you step back from them. For example, movies like Sinister usually scare the bejesus out of me but not that one simply because I could not be afraid of a monster, who when not stealing children and possessing them to slaughter their families, looks like he shops at The Men's Warehouse. ("You're going to like the way you look.")

This, my friends and I used to watch scary movies and sometimes we'd make a joke and the whole horror element was lost because it was really funny.
I mean, some movies seriously are too ridiculous. We cracked up watching Drag Me to Hell.
Also I remember the scene from Paranormal Activity 2 where everything in the kitchen flips out, you can see Spongebob fall out of the cabinet in the lower hand corner and it gets funnier the more you watch it.

I think you were supposed to crack up with Drag Me to Hell. It was part of that horror-comedy genre like The Cabin in the Woods, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil or Shaun of the Dead. Like for every horror moment there were to ridiculous comedy moments.

Like the lamia was supposed to be frightening but as soon as it possessed the goat it turned into a comedy scene. A dark comedy scene, though.

I had no idea, they said it was a horror movie and that's what happened.

Yeah, we were gone by the time it possessed the goat.

Well, the director is Sam Raimi and he's known for doing horror-comedies. Namely, the Evil Dead Trilogy. (The first Evil Dead is a straight up horror movie. Evil Dead II was a horror-comedy. And the last in the trilogy, The Army of Darkness is more of a horror-supernatural-adventure-comedy.) All three are worth watching if you haven't already done so. The lead character, Ash, is a horror icon and he is awesome.

Unless it's a really good horror flick, like, I dunno.. The Road, usually what I do is yell at the characters.

Like, "Wtf, why are you doing that?! WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT, JUST RUN AWAY. WHY WOULD YOU GO LOOKING FOR THE NOISE WTF ARE YOU BRAINDEAD."

Getting angry at the characters also makes it kind of hilarious, because once they do get hurt for their stupidity, you have to laugh, because it looks like a cat getting scared by something coming out from an unexpected place.

As someone who gets a sense of horror from TV Tropes pages (Won't even mention the page that unnerved me tonight), I usually go and read something else on the site, usually something I know is funny or insightful.
