Re: Fix a crappy finale!

What would you do instead?

*genuinely curious*

I mean, I'd want to have the Doctor and Donna have a big win in the finale and become happy and fix each other's issues with the power of bffness.

But then there'd be the question of "but then why would Donna ever leave ever" And "but then Eleven would be too normal and boring and angstless when Ten regenerated"

Maybe she would die in an awesome heroic sacrifice or something and drive Ten insane with grief? Because that's what RTD foreshadowed all season and then totally chickened out on because he's a manipulative coward who refuses to challenge the audience's expectations. IDK. It seemed like he wrote himself into a corner with that arc.

I'm not certain how I'd work with Donna differently. But for the rest of those episodes:

1: Dump the dead weight of the family reunion plot to focus on Donna.

2: Keeping Rose in the wings for two whole seasons was not the best idea.

3: The whole gothic return of The Master was an episode of badly-paced gibberish. The pacing and beats just don't work. Either explore it or just have him pop out of a portal or a basement laboratory.

4: The conclusion of that two-parter was dead-weight montage. In fact, it's a perfect encapsulation of everything that went wrong with the series and why we needed a new Doctor. It became more important to cram fanservice into the cracks than to work with the wonderful chemistry of the current companion (in this case Wilfred). If you MUST have a closure montage, put it in Wilfred's hands to say that The Doctor has moved on.
