Didn't Dumbledore himself point out how fucked up the Sorting system is? I swear he said it to Snape once. Like, I vaguely remember a scene where Dumbledore was impressed by a particular display of bravery/loyalty from Snape and basically said, "We Sort kids too soon. You exemplify Gryffindor virtues and it's a shame the Sorting Hat couldn't have seen that when you were eleven."

Basically, yes.

The problem with that comment though was that it would have been nice for Dumbledore to say "Gee, it seems that a Slytherin can have brave qualities too" rather than "Obviously you should have been in precious Gryffindor." All he was really doing was showing his bias towards a particular house which is the bigger problem with the sorting system than the fact that they sort too soon.
