Tl;dr Everyone practices good hygiene unless otherwise stated.

It depends on my opinion of the particular characters' oral hygiene. Like, does the one whose mouth is currently being tongue spelunked floss and brush regularly? Normally, for kissing, I go by similar fantasy rules applicable to anal sex- poop doesn't exist unless its presence is applicable to the sex scene. In the case of kissing, plaque, bad breath, etc. does not exist. HOWEVER, it's a little hard to apply that rule to characters that are canonically shown to possess poor hygiene.

Also, personally, I prefer strategic and teasing use of tongue in kissing as opposed to mouth invasion.

Oh gosh, I first read "plaque" as "plague" and thought you were talking about Medieval-time French kissing. "Love and Bubonic Plague", now *that* would be a romance!

...your problem with this is that maybe someone didn't brush?

Not... the imagery?

... yes? The OPs examples are such cliched and innocuous phrases that the imagery doesn't really bother me. If it were something like "His tongue was like a slug slowly sliming its way into her mouth," or "Their tongues were fighting like two sweaty Mexican wrestlers. (Their tongues weren't wearing masks, but you get the point. It was wet and intense.) Saliva sloshed out of their mouths during the force of the brutal tongue battle and dribbled down their chins."

Ew, I wish I hadn't read that while eating.

HA! Dude. I have stopped reading fics where on character threw up and then there was *kissing* without tooth brushing first.

No, no, no, NO.

Oh man. A peck on the side of the mouth or on the lips if they washed out their mouth, okay. That's fine. But full on making out with tongues? Ew.

WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT OR THINK THAT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA?

Oh wait. I had a thought: vomit fetish.

...oh no, why did I have that thought? :(

In what must have been a failure in editing (I hope), that happened in the middle of a movie I watched once. It really had nothing to do with the plot of the movie but I just sat there gaping and wondering if no one had noticed that guy JUST THREW UP TEN SECONDS AGO.

Oh, jayzus.
*flails*

The only movie i ever saw that handled this right was that stupid 'Strange Brew' movie and one of the Mackenzie brothers is sick and tells his crush 'I'd kiss you, but i have puke breath.'

In 'The Whole Nine Yards', the main character gets sick, his girlfriend goes to kiss him, he stops her, points out the sick and they say 'yeah, toothbrushing'.

So, if you were looking for that kind of film. For some reason.

...no? I'd really rather not think about it at all, heh.
