Yeah, maybe I've been kissing wrong my whole life, but I'd really be repulsed if someone decided to lick the entirety of my mouth. Tongue wars are weird as well. It's not exactly a kiss if you're so wrapped up in tongue ballet or whatever.

Really? I think that's a pretty apt way to describe the way your tongues swirl around each other, what with teeth and lips and all else happening.

Maybe I'm a bad kisser. Or every guy I've ever kissed was. Or something.

See I don't mind that too much as long as the don't make it sound wet. That just grosses me out. I know it happens, but you can kind of ignore it when it's you. Between to actors on the screen who I am watching it just sounds gross.

It depends on my opinion of the particular characters' oral hygiene. Like, does the one whose mouth is currently being tongue spelunked floss and brush regularly? Normally, for kissing, I go by similar fantasy rules applicable to anal sex- poop doesn't exist unless its presence is applicable to the sex scene. In the case of kissing, plaque, bad breath, etc. does not exist. HOWEVER, it's a little hard to apply that rule to characters that are canonically shown to possess poor hygiene.

Also, personally, I prefer strategic and teasing use of tongue in kissing as opposed to mouth invasion.

Oh gosh, I first read "plaque" as "plague" and thought you were talking about Medieval-time French kissing. "Love and Bubonic Plague", now *that* would be a romance!

That's secretly what's running through my head when I see that description of "exploring mouths with tongue" :P

I was interested in this one fantasy book until someone told me the prose was awful. When two characters were making out, it included the sentences "Our tongues writhed, and slithered in their caves of pleasure. Tongues proclaiming what we were. Human. Lovers."

It's just a really unappealing mental image.

Yeah, whenever I write kissing scenes, I don't mention tongues much. I mainly focus on lips.

I think makeout scenes is awkward in general. Like, if a movie zooms in on the kiss and you see tongue, I go meeeep.

Okay, it's not an everyday thing, but when I'm really turned on and want to feel close to my partner, I like kissing like that. I think descriptions of "caressing his gums" etc are a bit silly, because who is actually thinking about that, but in general I find it effectively conveys how passionate and /or horny the characters are.
Sometimes people's mouths are just fucking sexy.

Yeah, I've kissed like this, and it was kinda gross and ridiculous. Did not enjoy. Although the "battling for dominance" thing totally happens.

Kissing with tongue is nice. I've done it. I can see why it appeals to people. But it does feel weird for me to read about it. Queasy? No, but a bit awkward. Maybe it's because it's something people don't really talk about? I feel like people actually talk, like in detail, WAY more about actual sex than about making out.

Also, I think that kind of thing is often badly written and it can be very easy to do that.

Why does it actually turn out that most people complaining about kiss descriptions in fics are the ones who generally don't like kissing?

Hey, guess what, everyone kiss differently, and feel differently when they kiss, and like different thing when they kiss, and what one person finds hot in a kiss description another may not. Just because something bothers you or that you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it's 'lol not realistic'.

Seriously people, by some of you I think the only good french-kissing description there is, is "They kissed. There was tongue involved."

I think that's ... weird as well, but I'm also not a big fan of saliva swapping in general.

I also love it when, in the midst of passion, someone bites the other one's shoulder/whatever and there is ~blood running down~ and it's supposed to be sexy - and all I can think is: It's not that easy to draw blood by biting (at least not with normal human teeth) - at least not in a way that sends the blood running in streams Oo
