What about the 2009 specials, the ones with Jackson Lake, Christina de Souza, and Adelaide Brooke? People call them "one-off companions," but they're essentially secondary characters who meet up with the Doctor and have one adventure with him. Of course, Christina and Jackson fit this mold a bit better than Adelaide, but still.
