What do you pack for lunch?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-05 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm mostly looking for ideas for a non-refrigerated pack lunch but I also just want to know what you guys eat around noon.

Usually sandwiches or pasta salad or stuff like that.

But I forget to bring lunch a lot. I'm way too absent minded in the morning.

I usually do a Ploughman's style lunch. A couple of slices of crusty country bread, a good hunk of cheese that will keep for few hours unrefrigerated, a couple of sticks of dry aged meat. (Usually a couple stick of Vermont Real Sticks.) A piece of fruit like a few grapes or strawberries or some finger food veggies.

It may not look much but the fun part is trying to find the best ingredients. Dried meats and cheese you've never tried before. That perfect slice of bread. After a while, these lunches become your favorite meals.

I can't stand any of the non-refrigerated stuff that's marketed as lunch stuff. It all tastes like chemicals, even single serve soups in microwaveable cups. I have access to a fridge and I usually cook a chicken breast the night before and bring that, plus a small salad and maybe some fruit if something I like is in season. I also buy the economy packs of Fiber One bars and throw one of those in there for a mid morning snack because it's almost 7 hours between breakfast and lunch for me.

Sandwiches, left-overs, crackers & cheese. Maybe a microwavable meal if I want a change. Normal stuff as most of my lunches are pretty plain. If I have a sandwich or crackers, I'll add fruit to it and maybe a yogurt. (Apples with cinnamon keep well if you can't refrigerate your food).

I sometimes make Cornish Pasties to take in the next day. Mmm, delicious. I don't recommend eating pasties made with mince cold because the mince just congeals into a solid mass inside the pastry and it actually hurts my jaw to try and bite through it, but steak and chicken both make lovely cold lunches.
Other than that, I take in sandwiches, pasta, salad or home-made quiche. Hmm, I've taken cold stuffed potatoes before.

It depends. Sandwiches, with whatever I have on hand, sometimes several kinds of sandwiches (cheese, ham, anything). Biscuits or yoghurts. Pasta, with a variety of sauces, or green beans and tomato sauce. Leftovers. I go for filling and quick to make, but I never buy ready-made plates, however, the rations are often either too small or too big and too salty.

When I work an 8.5 hour shift, I get a fifteen min break, a thirty, then another fifteen, so I bring some sort of small salad for the first (either plain veggies or with some cheese on top), something with protein and carbs for the thirty (tuna sandwiches are awesome), and some sort of fruit for the last fifteen, usually berries of some kind. Though leftovers from the previous night always go to the front of the queue.

Cold sandwiches, mostly. Sometimes salad if I have any on hand. If I have any leftovers from the night before, I go ahead and pack that.

Peanut butter and "something".

Sometimes peanut butter and jelly, sometimes peanut butter and honey, sometimes peanut butter and Nutella, or raisins, or banana, or apple... I just like bread and peanut butter with nearly everything. XD
