yeah wtf. Fic writers can work as hard as authors, but the majority of fanfiction out there is absolute shit, especially if you browse a site like ff.net. Personally, I wouldn't blame your friend for not knowing there actually is good writing out there that people work hard on. And I wouldn't consider "fans" very hard critics, either, considering the majority of reviews are something along the lines of "so kyoot i wunder what will hapn 2 them! UPDATE UPDATE UPDAET PLZ." Your friend is being silly - any writing requires some level of thinking, but you're being silly too in your reaction. You honestly think professional writers don't have to deal with cliches, way more intense critics, and maybe having to create and develop a character?
