Not just oekaki. I just phrased the secret wrong. I meant, why is it that a really quick pixel doodle on some japanese site gets more attention than a semi-realistic painting of a character done by an english-language artist?

It's the whole "japanese = so cool/awesome art" mentality at most I think. :/
