Um, I disagree that babies are inherently boring to anyone that's not the parent. I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude, and I know you didn't mean anything by it, but that's seems like a bit of an...uncomfortable generalization to me.

I was speaking from a storytelling perspective, mostly. Babies literally cannot do much that is visually interesting, or that even counts as an "action" screenwriting wise. They can't have dialogue, to begin with, nor can they actually go anywhere or do anything interesting. Sure you can have one or two shots of them being cute and smiling but that's about it. You can make other characters react to it - but then it becomes about the baby and not the plot.

Sure you could have interesting character lines about them being kidnapped or something, but they only go so far.
