I don't really know what to call this topic
(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 03:44 am (UTC)(link)On the other, I get such a huge D/s kick off of Peter and Neal (and El) that I don't want to stop watching.
On the first hand, though, I'm sick to death of Neal not trusting Peter, and back and forth, blah blah. It might be realistic but I'm sick of it. MOVE ON GUYS. Ack.
Anyone watch a show like this - you're sick of almost all of it, but that one thing keeps you coming back? Or, alternative, does anyone want to bitch and whine about White Collar with me?
Re: I don't really know what to call this topic
I didn't really stick with it long enough to say objectively whether it was well-done or not, though.;;
But I've definitely had other shows that drove me crazy but I stuck with them.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 04:21 am (UTC)(link)What were those other shows, if you don't mind me asking?
Re: I don't really know what to call this topic
The first thing that comes to mind is Pokémon, which I followed loyally from age 8 up until age 14 despite knowing objectively that the storytelling was terrible and being infinitely frustrated that they wasted the potential for a good show on a cash cow. Other shows include Disney sitcoms like Hannah Montana, which was terrible but my friends liked it and I watched it to fit in with them. And some other children's shows like Planet Sheen.
In general I find it very, very difficult to let things go, so most of the things that are coming to mind are things I used to like when I was a kid and then got older and realized they were not that good, but I couldn't bring myself to abandon them. /cool story sis
Re: I don't really know what to call this topic
(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 06:16 am (UTC)(link)and obviously they can't do a romance for lots of very good reasons, even if it seems like it goes there half the time anyway and it would make lots of people happy- so they hand Neal a Conflict Ball labelled "Can't trust Peter" and then have him whine about how he can't trust Peter. Argh. It was fine the first time, and it made sense the first time, even if it wasn't subtle at all. Now it's annoying.)I think I used to watch Pokemon. Not enough to remember it well, clearly. My brother and I were big fans of Yu-Gi-Oh, and I remember that I was very saddened by the ending, which was okay even if the rest of the show was extremely contrived. Same with some other Disney shows, Wizards of Waverly Place and that one in the hotel with the twins, whatever it's called.
I'm with you there. Every so often I find something that I watched/read as a kid and inevitably I either wince at younger!me's horrible taste or I end up getting into whatever it was again.
Re: I don't really know what to call this topic
Ah man, Yu-gi-oh. I used to watch that, too, though I watch long enough to see the ending. Yeah, the plot was super contrived and melodramatic, but the friendship between the main characters still gives me warm fuzzies when I think about it. XD IMO the best part about that show is how my nine-year-old brother and his friends would imitate the characters from the show when they played the card game. Like they would be in the other room playing Duel Monsters and I'd overhear them going "I SUMMON THE BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON IN ATTACK MODE!!!" "NOOOO NOT THE BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON!!!!" "BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON, DESTROY HIS DARK MAGICIAN!!" "NOOOOO! MY LIFE POINTS!" It was hilarious. /coolstorysis again
High five for nostalgia, nonnie.
