Well, today I found out one of my grandmothers is not dead as I thought all my life, but very much alive and wanting to meet me.

It's been an interesting day.

Do you feel comfortable sharing why you thought she was dead? Do you want to meet her?

My dad always talked about his dad and never about her, so I kinda assumed she died when he was little, or they weren't very close and he didn't have anecdotes to share about her. Turns out she isn't dead, she even came to my baptism and first birthday, but then moved to another city and returned a couple years ago. My parents didn't want to tell me before because they thought I "wouldn't understand" (I'm not too happy about this part) but they felt they had to tell me before she was ill or died because it would have been even more awkward "Hey, get dressed, we are going to the funeral of the grandma you never knew you had", so they told me out of the blue today. Apparently she is not very nice and there are some reasons why they aren't close but nowadays my dad goes to her place quite often and takes her to the doctor and that kind of things.
I dunno if I want to meet her (but truth to be told, I'm very shy, I wouldn't really *want* to meet like 99.9% of the world's population), he says she wants to meet me so I guess I will, but I don't really understand whether she really cares (and then why she didn't make more effort in these 20 years to meet me) or she is just saying that.
My life is usually quite boring, today has been a weird day indeed.

I hope that if you do meet her, it is a positive experience and that if you decide not to that no one gives you any grief over it. It sounds like a pretty complicated situation.

I'll try to remember to post an update when I meet her (my dad wants to do it before I start back at Uni and he goes back to work in two weeks... so it's going to be quite soon)
