Dude...I have been a dyed-in-the-wool Superman fan for over thirty years, and this is one of the best character deconstructions of Lois Lane that I've ever seen. Massive kudos!

The only thing I'd add is that Lois Lane is one of the few non-powered mortals on Earth (besides Batman and Lex Luthor) who actually pose a challenge to the Man of Steel. While it's true that a lot of things depend on who's writing them, in practically every incarnation, it's accepted as gospel fact that Lois is a far better reporter than Clark Kent is. (Even in the 30's and 40's, way before Women's Lib, she was at very least his equal which, for the time, is saying something.) Kent has to work /hard/ to keep up with her, which is not something he's used to doing.

Now add to /that/ dynamic the fact that this ultra-capable reporter is doggedly applying her not-inconsiderable skills to uncover the truth behind his every secret (whether it's trying to prove that Clark Kent is Superman in the Golden and Silver Age stories, or just muckraking his origins in the modern ones). Not only does Clark Kent have to work hard to keep up with her, but Superman has to work even harder to keep one step /ahead/ of her. (Seriously, some of the ridiculous lengths the poor schlub has to go to in the Silver Age stories just to keep his secret identity intact are hilarious in their sheer Rube Goldberg-ness.)

So, yeah...of course he's gonna dig her. Not even Wonder Woman can make him jump through hoops like that, New 52 be damned.

Yes, all of this too! I have nothing to add except ^ THIS.

And haha, I've read way too many old Superman comics from the '80s and '90s, which were mostly blah (or X-TREEM) on plot, but had some really grand ol' characterization and truly memorable worldbuilding/social-circle-development that I really miss :(

I'd also put forward that in some ways she kind of represents an ideal of Humanity for him. If Clark Kent, as his alter ego, represents the "average" human in his eyes, then Lois represents the part of Humanity he considers great.

Lois is a pure Vanilla non-powered mortal and stares the down the likes of Darkseid, Lex Luthor, Doomsday, etc. She is courageous, resourceful, determined and brilliant. She probably gets herself out of messes as much as Superman does and she never backs down from finding the truth or standing up for what's right. She often defends those without power against those who abuse them
