Re: Robot/android protagonist recs? Anyone?

He's not THE main character, but a robot is one of the main characters of the webcomic Gunnerkrigg Court, and robots feature heavily in it. There's all sorts of interesting stuff in there regarding their history, formation, society, even religion.

...Granted, some robots are questionable on the 'intelligent' side, but Robot (one of the main ensemble) definitely is. The robot-centric chapters include chapters 1, 12, 18, 25, 29 (partially), 33, and the first part of 41, but I seriously do recommend reading the whole thing, since the robots are present from like... page six, seriously.

I second this recommendation.

It's an urban fantasy setting, but it touches on stuff like dualism, spiritualism, magic vs science, technology, humanism, divinity, morality, etc.

It's surprisingly rife with symbolism, and while the plot isn't super complicated, it's very well thought out; the author already knew how the story would end when he started, he plans scripts for each chapter and draws several pages in advance so the comic never misses an update.

There's only been a few pacing hiccups, and the art started a little weak, but it's gotten downright beautiful these days.

It also has some of the strongest characterization I've ever seen in any medium. It takes a while to gain steam in that sense, but the author doesn't take the easy way out with his characters; there's is all sorts of gray morality, people with flaws and believable relationships going on there.

I recommend you try to reach up to Chapter 8 at least (the first few chapters are very short, it shouldn't take you more than 40 minutes or so) to see if you like it.
