Read the original stories, they reprint them!
Read the early Siegel and Shuster stories, seriously. If you can see the flaws in that and enjoy it for what it is anyway, I think you can appreciate a lot of the superhero genre. It's a power fantasy about a basically regular being able to fearlessly fight injustice because he has all these powers.
I have a weird soft spot for the movie Superman II, but I didn't like it at first.
I think Joe Kelly and Elliot S! Maggin wrote some good Superman stories.
And really I think Superman could do almost anything Batman could do, and twenty times faster, but editors try to downplay Supey's super-intelligence so Batman has something to be best at in the JLA.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-09 05:26 am (UTC)(link)Superman is a scientist and engineer. Batman is an investigator and(effectively) a psychologist. Superman, while being brilliant, is often unable to understand the connections that criminals make and use them to solve a case, whereas Batman understands them intimately and is able to track them down like a blood hound.
