Maybe the show's got enough stuff in it that people are happy staying within the lines, and not venturing out into kinkfic. Or everyone's just busy writing more Teen Wolf knotting fic.

Isn't Scandal a small fandom, though? Maybe the people writing for it just aren't into a lot of kinks. A03 isn't the best judge but there are less than 40 fics over there and most of them are Fitz/Olivia with a smattering of Olivia/Mellie that I just might check out because YESPLEASE :)

Farscape fandom has the same problem. The canon is full of kinky alien sex, but 90% of the fanworks are the two straight human(ish) leads kissing and cuddling. Like, the show has a dude with tentacles, a plant woman who orgasms from strong exposure to light, her boyfriend who just so happens to made up of light, and a villain who wears a gimp suit 24/7 and is occasionally led around on a leash. I don't know what went wrong.

eh, shows like that don't tend to gather very kinky (or large) fandoms. it's the same with rhime's other shows. Private Practice has a fairly small fandom with little kink. Not sure if Off the Map even had a fandom which probably speaks for itself. Grey's Anatomy at least was quite active in its heyday, but even among the thousands of fic, it was shockingly vanilla (I'm sure some of it had to have been at least a little freaky, but most of the M-rated fic I saw was fairly tame)

If it was a kink meme full of Olivia/Mellie, I'd be all over that. Olivia/Fitz, for me, is a major yawn.

Sometimes people use fanfiction to fill in the parts that aren't there in canon. Since this show is kind of wildly over the top, maybe people are writing the vanilla stuff they aren't getting from it.
