But you could plausibly do that without pretending that you don't need a uterus to safely carry a fetus o_O

The first and last kid-fic I wrote involved pseudo-sciency magic that implanted the DNA of one of the guys' sperm into a "blank" egg, paired with the other guys' sperm, and implanted the resulting zygote into a surrogate.

I mean, if you're already writing a story that's handwaving biological probability and it's not done for body horror or kink, then why not go for something that may actually be possible in the future? Cis males cannot and will never be able to get pregnant and carry a child, but my solution above? May actually be possible someday. (And then again, maybe not, but at least the theory's got more ground to stand on than spontaneously knocking a cis male up.)

Yes, that is a more plausible scenario.

However, you mentioned the surrogate. Maybe the writer likes the idea of the parents being able to just have the kid without needing to get a third person involved. Or complicated medical processes and technology, for that matter. Fictional straight couples can just fuck and boom, she's pregnant; maybe people like the idea of fictional gay and/or lesbian couples being able to do the same thing.

I have issues with the concept of surrogacy. I'd rather have a wish fulfillment fantasy where a man can get pregnant than be realistic about it and spend time fretting about the legal status of real-world surrogate mothers.

Tank baby.

because it is wish fulfilment. because some people don't wanna deal with the possibly complicated politics of surrogacy. because some people are into pregnancy and they wanna do the whole 'feeling the baby kick, physical changes, 'honey you are still beautiful even if you are huge'' thing which couldn't be done with a surrogate.
