I think the fans who bash it are the loud minority. Seriously. Nearly everyone seems to adore the game overall, so don't worry OP. Don't feel bad for liking it!

To be honest, I do find Awakening's plot to be lacking. But the other Fire Emblem games certainly aren't much better in that regard. It's just not a series I play for the story. I think the people hating on Awakening and comparing it to previous games are just letting nostalgia cloud their judgement.

And besides, the characters MORE than make up for the mediocre story. They may not all be complex (and you don't need to be in order to be a good character) but as far as pure entertainment value goes, they're incredible. I have played a LOT of JRPGs, and only a handful have a cast as endearing as Awakening.

I like Awakening's plot, but I'm a sucker for plots like that anyway. And honestly, the character dynamics are what's keeping me playing the...probably around a hundred and fifty hours I have logged.
