Re: Least favorite season of your favorite shows

(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
YANA. I didn't hate anything about it, but that's ironically part of the reason why it was my least favorite: it didn't try. It didn't attempt anything grand or powerful or meaningful enough to be worth hating, or loving, or feeling strongly about. I did love the s5 finale, because unlike the rest of the season, it had some serious audacity, but the season that led up to it felt so...small compared to seasons 1-4 and season 6 (in spite of all the things I disliked about season 6). So diminished. So thin. So lacking in depth and breadth and character development and thematic development and ideas and just so...empty. It was simply nice. Unoffensive, unproblematic, unambitious. It didn't ever reach for greatness and screw up hugely (*cough* The Last of the Time Lords), but that's because it barely ever reached for greatness at all.

Maybe people did see big ideas and rich material where I didn't, and maybe you disliked it for different reasons than me, but that's my two cents.
