(Anonymous) 2013-03-11 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)I'm going to be vague since it's been a while since I've read any relevant studies, but if I recall correctly the general research consensus is that media generally has a much greater effect on people/society's value systems than it does on individual's actions. Running with your violence example, then, violent media may have very little if any effect on whether or not a person will be violent, but it may have a considerably greater effect on people's tendency to see violence as cool, macho, or as an acceptable response in certain circumstances.
