Ugh, she's cute but I'm so sick of the Eura-Asian look in these Asian games.

A little blackanese would be nice, or some cinnamon chai so I could really pull off a cosplay, but they're real touchy about skin being dark where these games get made. Break out the hats and the gloves and the parasols in summer like nobody's business. Race might play a role, but I think the straight-up local beauty standard effect is even stronger.

There's Barret Wallace. In Advent Children he did have a bit of the mixed look that comes from a Japanese-as-default 'Our eyes are the normal ones' perspective.

It makes sense when you consider that they're probably using local actors/models for facial modeling and motion capture, though.

Gackt is the only living human who has any resemblance to a Squeenix character. That said, they don't use motion capture for the faces (or a bare minimum at most) so there are really no limits to character design. Squeenix (=Nomura) just likes to design everything with the same generic Euro-Japanese face mold because that's what sells, apparently.

Somebody has a very stereotyped idea of what Asian people are supposed to look like. Hang out in Harajuku for half an hour. I swear I saw Cloud Strife there one day.

This! There's a legion of Tokyo late teens and twenty-somethings who would fit right into a SE game. They dye and gel their hair, they wear coloured contacts, they wear outlandish gear on weekends and for the most part they're fine-featured and slender. Even among those who don't go all out, hair dye and contacts are pretty common place. Don't know how mimicking the look of Japanese young people adds up to 'Eurasian' for crankypants up there.

I honestly don't see how it's "Eura-Asian" at all. The hair and eye color might suggest a different nationality, but both of those characteristics can be "faked." Facial structure and body type both scream "Japanese."

This is a girl from Japan who dyed her hair and bought some colored contacts.

What is it with people thinking noses are such a racially distinct feature? There's overlap.

The nose DOES have a complex shape which makes it probably the easiest feature to tell ethnicities apart. Vanille's nose is so narrow and pointy that it looks more European than Japanese.

And what exactly do you mean by "European," given that there are a wide range of nose shapes throughout Europe?

For that matter, there are a wide range of nose shapes throughout east Asia. There are actually Asian people with narrow, pointy noses. I'm not sure where you've gotten this idea that there can't be.

Anytime I see people hanging on to The Nose as a reliable indicator of race, I think they don't have as much experience with different races as they like to believe.
