Spaceballs had a much wider appeal. And Bill Pullman was hot back then.

Yes he was! Thank you. I actually liked him well into his "Independence Day" days. Now, he's not ugly by any means, but I'm kinda "meh" about him. I guess it was the floppy hair.

Me too. I always felt really awkward as a kid when I found him hot as the dad in Casper. DILF, I guess.

I love Spaceballs, but, um, a geeky Mel Brooks parody movie had a "much wider appeal"? Than Star Wars???? Y'know, THAT Star Wars? The one everyone and their dog has seen and everyone who hasn't knows all about from osmosis?

I'm sorry but wut.

I found Star Wars boring. Just because people have watched/heard of something, doesn't mean it appeals to them.

Yeah, but it's not correct to say Spaceballs have much wider appeal, because they don't. A lot of people don't like Mel Brooks' humour.

"A much wider appeal" does not mean "I found more appealing", it means "everyone generally found more appealing". Which is not true, obviously, with how popular Star Wars is even to this day.

Just because you liked something more than the other does not mean everyone did, or even most people did.
