It makes me uncomfortable when people wear too much of anything from any fandom, to be honest. I like to keep my two lives separate, and getting dragged into a deep fandom conversation by someone who's dressed to the nines in gear just pulls me into that group of people that are confusing everyone and making them uncomfortable.

You might want to work on that.

Unless you live in a very small town, people wearing fandom gear, even silly horns like that, aren't "confusing everyone and making them uncomfortable." Someone not in the know probably looks at it like hair feathers or what-not--just another silly thing the kids are doing these days. Most fandom gear doesn't give the average person on the street a pause, really. They might be confused in the sense of "Huh, I wonder what's up with that," but very very few people are actually made "confused and uncomfortable" by another person wearing fangear.

And if they are...that's kind of their problem.

The whole vicarious embarrassment you're getting...well, yeah, nerds get that sometimes. But you've got some kind of disturbing "in the nerd closet" thing going on that can't make for much peace of mind. Calm down. No one's gonna find out your secret just because another nerd is around.

If you truly think that every stranger that you encounter actually gives that much of a shit about people dressing up in "gear," then you've got some serious insecurity problems.
