I judge people who wear pajamas to the grocery store, so wearing cosplay gear to the store seems like something appropriately judge-worthy to me.

Pajamas in public are one of my exception to my "live and let live, as long as they're not bothering anyone" policy. Unless its early in the day or late at night. Five o'clock on a Sunday am you can't be arsed to put on real clothes to go to Target? Those people sicken me.

I don't agree with you, but it's a distinction that makes sense.

Shirts, sweaters, earrings will probably not mean anything to anyone outside the fandom. They may come off as unusual, but people wear more unusual things for any number of reasons.

Wearing trolls horns will definitely attract attention, much of it judgmental, and it definitively zeroes in on one fandom. You're afraid these people will give outsiders the impression that all Homestuck fans are weirdoes who wear fake horns to the grocery store, and then they will extend that judgement to you.

Really? I mean...yea, it's a bit odd, but if I saw someone wearing those horns I'd just giggle to myself and go about my day. Even if I don't 'like' what other people are wearing it isn't any of my business, so I don't see what the big deal is.

It makes me uncomfortable when people wear too much of anything from any fandom, to be honest. I like to keep my two lives separate, and getting dragged into a deep fandom conversation by someone who's dressed to the nines in gear just pulls me into that group of people that are confusing everyone and making them uncomfortable.

Candy corn horns and zodiac t shirts aren't so embarrassing as they are costume-y and strange. The grey face paint is the cringe worthy part.

I wear crap to the grocery store, dry cleaners, etc.; I can't be arsed to dress in my nice clothes. As long as it's not people-of-walmart/revealing, I'll wear pjs. (Hello kitty pjs sound really cute, ngl).

If I know there's a con in the area I shrug it off. I know I've been at a con hotel, needed to go to the grocery store or w/e, and just didn't get out of costume because why bother (it takes too long to get back in it).

But lol just walking around in troll horns for the hell of it? Yeah that's a bit... much.

If I see a few Homestuck kids in cosplay (or any cosplay, really) running around together, whatever, they're just hanging out and we've all done stupider things with our friends than cosplay at a mall.

But if you're just out running errands alone in full-blown cosplay, yeah, that's going to get some side-eyeing and severe second-hand embarrassment.

If I saw someone wearing horns in public (especially not on Halloween) I'd just think they had guts.

I've seen people wear little horns and things in public (long before homestuck, they're a staple of RenFaires). My daughter even has a little pair she wore out a few times.

I'd think they were cute/silly and mostly ignore it. Unless i got jabbed in the face with one.

Cosplay is something teenagers do, whether it's band t-shirts or horns, part of that whole playing with identity thing.

Grocery store or such might be weird, because I tend to associate a trip to the grocery store with a quick "Get in, get out, no BS" mentality. Super casual clothes. No time wasting with appearances.

But like other places, in an informal setting?
Don't see why it matters. You wanna have fun with your appearance? Go for it.
I've worn cat ears and tails and such out in public and to bars and other places, and I've gotten so many compliments for it.
I don't see how troll horns would be any different.

It's a silly thing to be upset by, but judge away, if it makes you happy I guess. As long as you don't expect anyone to care.

I don't judge, but I get secondhand embarrassment up the wazoo. Same with people who wear stuff like cat ears in public.

I don't consider my troll horns an accessory like earrings or a hat, and don't just randomly wear them. BUT, I went around campus in full Vriska cosplay for Halloween, and wore my horns to the dining halls when I was running a meetup so the people in my group could identify me, and didn't take them off when I went to go buy food because why bother? And why be embarrassed of what I love?

If that bothers you, OP, judge away.

Personally, if I saw someone just walking around in full Homestuck cosplay, I'd probably squeal and go all hand-flappy with glee. I guess you can judge me too.

Way back, in the mists of time, I remember kids and teenagers wearing headbands with glittery foam balls on the ends of long flexible stalks like antennae or something. It made me blink a little at first, but then it didn't really matter - even if they looked a little silly, they weren't hurting anybody. If someone is in a casual setting, I really can't say I care what kind of headgear they wear - mouse ears would probably make me smile, though.

I judge people who judge people based on how they dress. I find it more cringe worthy and embarrassing then any potential second hand embarrassment silly fandom accessories, or, ~GOD FORBID~ pajamas at the store could bring.

At least people who dress how they please seem happy and secure with themselves.

People who have conniptions over ~propriety~ and ~decorum~ just come off as very boring and insecure.
