Eh, Penny and Aggie was all right. What really did in Campbell's reputation was the spinoff, QUILTBAG, which featured two of the original series' most polarizing characters, and lazily filled out most of the rest of the cast with reader-based cardboard cutouts. The latter in turn caused most of the forum discussion to consist of people, who apparently had no lives of their own, constantly pointing out, "See that character? That's me! Oh yeah, and also I am that character, and did I mention that character was me?" The most pathetic was when two or three fans vied with each other for the claim to be Ronnie, the comic's least sympathetic character, a morbidly obese sad sack who goes around misinterpeting everyone's innocuous remarks as personal attacks until he finally punches someone out.

And then there was the incident in which Campbell not only revealed he'd had no idea that "tranny" was an offensive term, but went on for two days basically saying, "All right, I'll change it to 'trans,' but I don't see why you people are being all P.C. about it; leave me alone." Only after various readers announced they were quitting, the most active (and usually pathetically sucking-up) forum member called him out, and his name instantly became synonymous on Tumblr with transphobia, did he finally realize he'd fucked up royally and apologize. But by then it was too late. Dude, when the second Google search result for "QUILTBAG webcomic," to this very day, says "not recommended" in its title, you've failed in your mission to write about the lives of LGBT people. The surprise wasn't that he eventually cancelled the comic, but that he didn't do it that very week.

There's also such a thing as forgiveness for making mistakes...

...But I wouldn't expect you Tumblr SJWs to practice that. So much more comforting to paint T as OMG EBIL 4EVA because, as he clearly explained, he'd had a terrible few nights' sleep from travelling and wasn't at his best. And then fucking apologized.

So much more supportive of your tiny insular "victim" worldview for you SJWs to drag a GOOD WRITER'S reputation through the dirt. Never mind that at least a few of the comic's trans readers were perfectly willing to forgive them. So much better to be outraged on their behalf so you can be a "good ally."

Fucking Tumblr. Hope it goes the way of the dodo like LJ did.

Haha, whoa. Way to assume, buddy. I don't have a Tumblr, SJW or otherwise. And I'm neither LGBT nor perpetually, professionally outraged on their behalf. I'm just saying, if someone's a straight, cis dude and intends to write a comic or whatever "about the QUILTBAG experience," then he'd be better off doing his damn research and knowing what is and isn't acceptable language to one or more of the populations within (trans, in this case). He'd also be better off not acting all butthurt when called on it, regardless of how much sleep the poor, delicate flower has or hasn't had. Just fix the mistake, apologize, promise to do better in the future, and move on.

And yeah, forgiveness is great, but it's understandable if some trans people or their allies maybe don't feel like watching a forum thread for days (because maybe they have other things to do with their time) just to see if the author eventually apologizes. That's not being a PC SJW OMFGWTFBBQ. That's just typical behaviour for anyone but blindly loyal fanbois who line up to lick their favourite creator's taint.
