Eh, nothing really wrong with that. I mean, you *can* use it for all of those things, still. Not to mention that the way you are using it also means it doubles as an e-reader, but for fanfic. I wouldn't feel too bad.

I don't even read fanfic but I don't see the problem with it, tablets are largely a device we use for fun, we try to justify them and they can be handy (having the internet set up on mine has saved me on a few occasions) but it's not like books, games, movies, music or any of the fun things you can do on tablets is really a great reason to spend a lot of money.

This is pretty much me and my android phone. Now I have no income and I'm stuck in this ridiculously $70/month contract, but I have NO REGRETS.
Still, you should probably use it for those other things too OP!!!

My tablet and my ereader are both used almost exclusively for reading fanfiction. I'm not even a little ashamed.

It's your money, OP, so don't feel bad. But if you do, try to find and do more things with your tablet. They can have lots of uses.

Btw, reading the comments before me... Am I the only one who actually uses it for work? I can get a lot more serious reading done on it than I ever could on my laptop.

As I (and most people around me) keeps saying smartphones and tablets are really just expensive toys. Which is awesome!

I love both my smartphone and my iPad, but even if I at times use my iPad when taking notes in my lectures I mostly use it for reading fanfics and playing Temple Run (both things I could use my phone for).

The important thing is that you can use a tablet for something productive, but you don't have to. It is yours and you can use it however you want to use it!

lol I'm kinda the opposite... I use my kindle fire MOSTLY for watching netflix while I do other shit on my laptop. I do also use it to read books, but I play a lot of video games so while I'm playing assassin's creed on my laptop and it takes the fullscreen, I use my kindle fire to watch tv. two fandoms at once, bitches!

really, if you are getting a good amount of use out of your tablet (aka, if YOU think you got your money's worth), then fuck everyone else. who cares what they think? if you're using it frequently enough and for something you personally feel is worth the money, then don't be ashamed. but probably don't tell all your friends that either, because then you'll have to deal with their bullshit. and although they'd be in the total wrong to bitch at you over something that has nothing whatever to do with them, that's allways a pain in the ass, you know?

I got my tablet so I can read fanfiction. When I would read on my laptop everyone always wanted to know what I was doing. Now when people ask I just say reading and they think I am reading a book. I love it.

And that's why I spent $79 on a Nook. Low price and I can download epubs from Ao3 or the library for anytime anywhere reading with no need for wifi.

But, more seriously: no one actually needs to have a tablet. It exists for the twin purposes of relaxation and entertainment. There's nothing wrong with using it just to read fic, or just to play games, or whatever else a person might use it "just" to do.
