i think it's about authors self-censoring. i've seen it a few times in the past at the pit, but not for actual sex scenes. vaguely confused where OP is reading these fics.

Assuming this is about the censoring... Yeah, if you're old enough to be writing about sex in the first place, you should be old enough to type out the ~dirty~ words in full. Bleeping out the dirty words only brings down the rating if you're making a movie :P

Yeah, if people are putting things like *** in there and you can obviously tell what it is meant to say, I do wonder why don't the just type what they mean? Although, I guess it can take some people a while to feel comfortable using words they have been brought up not to say. Having said that I sometimes can't stop laughing when I see phrases like "he parted her slick petals" and things like "turgid member" - yes I know member is an acceptable substitute but for some reason that phrase has always seemed a bit, IDK, clinical to me. Depending on the context I often think "you know what, you may as well have said cock there" if the flowery phrasing is really awkward to read. Personal preference and all that though.

I'm guessing that this is about censoring so this is drifting off-topic but a few weeks back I tried to use cunt in a Merlin fic and my brain literally said to me "you can't say that, it's a family show".
