Tennant seems like a nice man, but it troubled me that he didn't seem to feel he was doing proper emotional acting unless you could see all the way up his nose.

Yes! LOL. He could be a real scenery-chewer at times.

I think his theatre background really shows sometimes. It doesn't always translate well on TV. In fact, I wonder if this is why I found the filmed version of his Hamlet awkward for all involved or if that's just because I'd seen it "live" so it generally felt weird.

I saw Hamlet live and I too found the filmed version awkward.

I think a lot of that was because the staging added a LOT to the production as a whole and that just didn't translate to the filmed version.

It was the hair pulling/playing with the hair thing that was driving me nuts toward the end of Ten's era ... and I really appreciated that in the filmed version of Hamlet, (at the start) his hair was slicked back and combed down. Until Tennant went to the "show anguish" well and started messing about with it. I just had to turn it off after that.

I loved Tennant the BBC "Para Handy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuXDrevqz8o)" series. Young Lovelorn!Tennant was so awesome and heartbreaking.

Yes! I didn't know if it was him or the directing, but sometimes he'd play to the back of the house.
