I really don't think RTD wanted people to hate Eleven, but he was very much happy and proud of a character he created, and wanted to give him a big send-off. Should he maybe have kept that pride in check? Well, yeah.

But I'm pretty sure Moffat is going to send 11 off in a really spectacular way, too, and I hope you don't hold it against the character.

I liked Ten a lot, but sometimes I felt like Davies unintentionally wrote some serious flaws into his character, and sometimes genocidal maniacs and kid-friendly no-violence actions don't really mesh.

Pretty much.

How is Moff's treatment of Amy and Rory any different? He signed them off and brought them back to life (literally!) a bunch of times.

They both have issues letting go haha

I think the flaws were intentional, RTD just wildly miscalculated their magnitude. Or handed too many stories off to writers who couldn't handle "Ten is a traumatized, guilt-ridden, self-justifying jerk sometimes," and just ended up parroting the self-justification as though it were The Good And Moral Core Of The Show.
