Ten is my favourite of the three New Who Doctors, but I get why people don't like him. His hyper is so hyper, and his angsty is so angsty, and while I love him because of it, I can see why it's a turn off to some people.

And, unlike some of the other people here, I absolutely see what you mean about Ten's regeneration making people hate Eleven. I don't think RTD did it on purpose- he wanted a grand finale for both himself and Tennant. Killing off the character brutally was a good way to do it, but making regeneration=death instead of regeneration=rebirth/renewal was a pretty tough situation to leave Moffat with. I think Moffat handled it quite well, and I loved series five, but, for me at least, it actually took watching several of the Classic Who Doctors and their regenerations to become okay with regeneration again.

But... it was a rebirth/renewal ... I mean Ten may have acted like it was a death but the way Eleven shows up happy and excited just made clear it was a rebirth to me.... but maybe the problem is I was so annoyed with Ten at that point I didn't care about his angst about death....
