I like 'im.

I actually liked Jackson. Nevermind that he's ridiculously hot, but he's SUPPOSED to be a jerk (and honestly, he pulled it off well!). Also, I have a bit of respect for people who KNOW they're jerks, own it, and don't try to act like they're not.

Like Scott. Scott is a major asshole but he tries to justify it by acting all righteous/moral/~in wuv~/etc. THAT I can't stand.

Anyway! What I really wanted to see was some actual character growth on Jackson's part. Badly. Guess that's not going to happen now, though.

I like Jackson, too. And Colton Haynes. Come at me, haters.

How is Scott is an asshole? The only moment I can think of is when he said Lydia didn't deserve his help because she didn't put up with Stiles' Nice Guy crap.

AYRT.

Well, it's more that he does asshole-ish things. Like accusing Derek of murder and having him arrested when he KNEW that he didn't do it in S1, and the stunt he pulled in S2 with Gerard, and the way he looks down on Isaac, Erica, and Boyd for choosing to be werewolves, and the fact that he's constantly putting Allison over everyone else, even in dire situations where Allison isn't the injured party, etc.

I don't hate him or anything, but a lot of the choices he makes are really narrow-minded and self-centered.

Re: I like 'im.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
the first time he did it it was because he thought derek killed laura for real and the second one was because he thought derek was dead so he did it because well he is 16 how do you want him to react to being trapped with a monster and his 'friends' that know nothing about werewolves derek was a easy solution at that time, and SPOILER (idk?) when he betrayed derek was because his mom was threatened HIS MOM tell me stiles wouldn't do the exact same thing for his dad.

yeah, Stiles would, but I think the difference comes down to show/tell. Stiles as a character both speaks and acts in a way that, yeah, we wouldn't be surprised at all. He does have a ruthless streak when it comes to protecting people, though it seems to extend beyond just people he loves. Scott, however, is the 'hero'. The show depicts him as being the hero, the protector, animals love him, heart of gold all that stuff (and he mostly is) but whenever Derek gets involved, Scott acts more like he accuses Derek of being. Yes, he was trying to protect his mother, but he somehow found the time to tell Deaton what was going on, but didn't tell Derek? It's a pretty good plan that falls to crap when you realize it hinges on Scott forcing Derek to bite Gerard. It would have upped the chances of success tremendously if he'd brought Derek in on it. A Derek who is willing and able to fight is going to be a lot more useful in a fight against hunters than the version we ended up with.

Plus that 'you may be an Alpha, but you're not mine' line? That was straight up being an asshole.

Okay seriously, when has Scott been an asshole? Hiding what he was doing to Gerard from Derek? Oh please.

Re: I like 'im.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
DA. That was pretty assholish. The guy had just saved his life, and Scott thanks him by taking him out and forcing him to bite the old geezer. To top this all, he justifies this with a fuck you, you're not my alpha.

Scott doesn't trust Derek and why should he? Nevermind that the more people Scott told of his plan, the bigger the risk that it would be found and would have all been for nothing. Scott didn't even tell Stiles. I'm not saying what Scott did was necessarily right, but I can see why he wouldn't.

There's also a good piece of meta here that I agree with which goes into some of the issues Scott has with Derek that I think play into this.

Ooh, I like meta! I think Scott is an interesting character because, as someone else said, he's basically set up as both the Hero and the Asshole characters. He's not perfect, which is refreshing. Because everyone on that show has issues with someone else and nobody is really Good or Bad.

I'll trade you your Scott meta from some interesting meta reaction post using film theory over here.

He has a good explanation (not that he's aware of it) but it still makes him an asshole. An asshole who gambled someone else's life without their consent. I love the guy, but the season 2 finale left me going "WTF dude? You are such a little shit."

Re: I like 'im.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Example #1: He accused Derek of murder and got him arrested even when he KNEW that Derek wasn't responsible.

Example #2: He constantly looks down on Erica, Boyd, and Isaac's decision to be bitten just because ~he~ doesn't like being a werewolf.

Example #3: Erica was having a freaking seizure and he didn't even want to help her out because Allison he wanted to take care of Allison, never mind that she was perfectly fine. And that's just ONE TIME he put Allison first when he really shouldn't have (swimming pool scene w/ Derek is another).

Example #4: He didn't want to help Lydia just because she'd always rejected Stiles. Which okay, I get the whole BFF loyalty thing, but REALLY?

Example #5: The exact same reason you just mentioned. It was a complete dickish move, and I don't care what excuse he tries to make to justify it.

Should I keep going?

Re: I like 'im.

These are all the reasons Scott frustrates me so much, your Example2 was particularly frustrating. Because I like Scott, but ugh he is so narrow-minded and just doesn't think a lot of the time.

(Also, I am very amused at how a secret about Jackson turned into a thread about Scott.)

Okay, I concede those points. At least you're not one of the people calling Scott a dumbass potato, I suppose. Though there's far more to Scott's character than just being a "major asshole", because like unicornherds said above, he's both the hero and an asshole. I don't think there's anyone on Teen Wolf who is morally perfect.

Re: I like 'im.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if I'd call Scott an asshole. He definitely tries to justify everything he does with the righteous/moral/etc, you're right on that end. But I think mostly he's just a stupid 16yo boy who is still only thinking about himself like most kids that age. Like with the whole issue with the other betas. He automatically assumes Derek is an ass and forcing them because he doesn't like being a werewolf. He doesn't stop to think that maybe Isaac, Erica, and Boyd all wanted this even with full disclosure.

I do have some major issues with what went down in the season 2 finale, and I think Derek should drop him and let Scott be the omega he wants to be.

Re: I like 'im.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT.

So calling him an asshole was probably going a bit too far (though in my defense I'm still pissed at him over the choices he made in S2). He makes a lot of poor, self-centered, often mean decisions and constantly looks down on people, though, and that really bugs the hell out of me. It's like, his world is so completely black-and-white and if something doesn't measure up to his personal standards and expectations he dismisses it without thought. Maybe he's not an asshole-- at least, not at Jackson's level-- but he can still be a real jerk.

Derek should DEFINITELY drop him. Let him be an omega and deal with everything on his own. Gosh, what I wouldn't do to have something happen to him that will make him come CRAWLING to Derek for help. Now, Derek has his faults and he's in no way a nice character, but I do think his heart is mostly in the right place. Mostly. With Scott, I always feel that he basically has Allison tunnel-vision and all his decisions are made primarily with either his own self-satisfaction, her happiness, and/or their relationship in major mind. Everything else falls to the sidelines and I hate that so, so much. And yah, I know, he's a stupid 16 year old boy, blah blah, but that doesn't make his decisions any less stupid, thoughtless, or cruel, and the consequences any less disastrous/hurtful.

Re: I like 'im.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
DA. I'd like Derek to drop him, too. The guy wants to deal with things by himself, so let him. The one thing that bothers me the most about Scott is the way he forgives Allison everything. He has no problems complaining about the mistakes the other characters make, but Allison is this huge blind spot. The way he told her that everything was OK at the end of season 2, after she had kidnapped, shot, stabbed, and tortured several people, was unbelievable. Couldn't he just acknowledge that it wasn't alright to do all that?

Oh please, Scott is not an asshole. His plan was a good one and if it had been, say, Stiles' plan I bet there wouldn't be nearly as much complaining.

Re: I like 'im.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
The plan wasn't all that good. It relied completely on dumb luck, that Gerard would just happen to drop his pills and then not notice that they'd been switched (how did Deaton have exactly similar pills anyway?). What would Scott have done if Gerard hadn't been that careless?

I'm sure if Gerard hadn't dropped them, Scott would have managed a way to make him drop them.

Re: I like 'im.

DA

In theory, good idea. In practice? complete crap.

For me it falls down on the not telling Derek part. Having Derek onside with the plan would have upped the chance of success immeasurably. As it is, Scott got massively, massively lucky again. At least, in part. Scott's tendency to go off on a crap plan while hoping for the best has already gotten people killed (a good chunk of the police department) and it's only a matter of time (and, of course, the showrunner's intervening hand) before someone he cares about dies as well.

I love the guy, but he needs to think. As it is, I'm more astonished that Deaton went along with this. Scott's a teenager. I expect him to be a moron sometimes, but Deaton's been around this shit for years. He should know better.

I agree with the Jackson bit, but the Scott bit makes me think we're watching completely different shows. That, or you're confusing Scott for Derek who is all of that minus the ~in wuv~.

The ~in wuv~ is replaced with ~in manpain~.
