I like 'im.
(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)Like Scott. Scott is a major asshole but he tries to justify it by acting all righteous/moral/~in wuv~/etc. THAT I can't stand.
Anyway! What I really wanted to see was some actual character growth on Jackson's part. Badly. Guess that's not going to happen now, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:12 am (UTC)(link)Well, it's more that he does asshole-ish things. Like accusing Derek of murder and having him arrested when he KNEW that he didn't do it in S1, and the stunt he pulled in S2 with Gerard, and the way he looks down on Isaac, Erica, and Boyd for choosing to be werewolves, and the fact that he's constantly putting Allison over everyone else, even in dire situations where Allison isn't the injured party, etc.
I don't hate him or anything, but a lot of the choices he makes are really narrow-minded and self-centered.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)yeah, Stiles would, but I think the difference comes down to show/tell. Stiles as a character both speaks and acts in a way that, yeah, we wouldn't be surprised at all. He does have a ruthless streak when it comes to protecting people, though it seems to extend beyond just people he loves. Scott, however, is the 'hero'. The show depicts him as being the hero, the protector, animals love him, heart of gold all that stuff (and he mostly is) but whenever Derek gets involved, Scott acts more like he accuses Derek of being. Yes, he was trying to protect his mother, but he somehow found the time to tell Deaton what was going on, but didn't tell Derek? It's a pretty good plan that falls to crap when you realize it hinges on Scott forcing Derek to bite Gerard. It would have upped the chances of success tremendously if he'd brought Derek in on it. A Derek who is willing and able to fight is going to be a lot more useful in a fight against hunters than the version we ended up with.
Plus that 'you may be an Alpha, but you're not mine' line? That was straight up being an asshole.

There's also a good piece of meta here that I agree with which goes into some of the issues Scott has with Derek that I think play into this.
Re: I like 'im.
I'll trade you your Scott meta from some interesting meta reaction post using film theory over here.

Re: I like 'im.
(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)He has a good explanation (not that he's aware of it) but it still makes him an asshole. An asshole who gambled someone else's life without their consent. I love the guy, but the season 2 finale left me going "WTF dude? You are such a little shit."
Re: I like 'im.
(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:21 am (UTC)(link)Example #2: He constantly looks down on Erica, Boyd, and Isaac's decision to be bitten just because ~he~ doesn't like being a werewolf.
Example #3: Erica was having a freaking seizure and he didn't even want to help her out because Allison he wanted to take care of Allison, never mind that she was perfectly fine. And that's just ONE TIME he put Allison first when he really shouldn't have (swimming pool scene w/ Derek is another).
Example #4: He didn't want to help Lydia just because she'd always rejected Stiles. Which okay, I get the whole BFF loyalty thing, but REALLY?
Example #5: The exact same reason you just mentioned. It was a complete dickish move, and I don't care what excuse he tries to make to justify it.
Should I keep going?
Re: I like 'im.
(Also, I am very amused at how a secret about Jackson turned into a thread about Scott.)

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)I do have some major issues with what went down in the season 2 finale, and I think Derek should drop him and let Scott be the omega he wants to be.
Re: I like 'im.
(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 12:34 am (UTC)(link)So calling him an asshole was probably going a bit too far (though in my defense I'm still pissed at him over the choices he made in S2). He makes a lot of poor, self-centered, often mean decisions and constantly looks down on people, though, and that really bugs the hell out of me. It's like, his world is so completely black-and-white and if something doesn't measure up to his personal standards and expectations he dismisses it without thought. Maybe he's not an asshole-- at least, not at Jackson's level-- but he can still be a real jerk.
Derek should DEFINITELY drop him. Let him be an omega and deal with everything on his own. Gosh, what I wouldn't do to have something happen to him that will make him come CRAWLING to Derek for help. Now, Derek has his faults and he's in no way a nice character, but I do think his heart is mostly in the right place. Mostly. With Scott, I always feel that he basically has Allison tunnel-vision and all his decisions are made primarily with either his own self-satisfaction, her happiness, and/or their relationship in major mind. Everything else falls to the sidelines and I hate that so, so much. And yah, I know, he's a stupid 16 year old boy, blah blah, but that doesn't make his decisions any less stupid, thoughtless, or cruel, and the consequences any less disastrous/hurtful.

Re: I like 'im.
(Anonymous) 2013-03-17 12:04 am (UTC)(link)In theory, good idea. In practice? complete crap.
For me it falls down on the not telling Derek part. Having Derek onside with the plan would have upped the chance of success immeasurably. As it is, Scott got massively, massively lucky again. At least, in part. Scott's tendency to go off on a crap plan while hoping for the best has already gotten people killed (a good chunk of the police department) and it's only a matter of time (and, of course, the showrunner's intervening hand) before someone he cares about dies as well.
I love the guy, but he needs to think. As it is, I'm more astonished that Deaton went along with this. Scott's a teenager. I expect him to be a moron sometimes, but Deaton's been around this shit for years. He should know better.
