I know a lot of people avoid wip's like the plague because there's the possibility the author could abandon it, but I like them. It's fun to go check and re-read while you wait - and I just like the burst of happiness when the eagerly awaited chapter arrives, especially if it's after a really long time. I don't even mind when they do get abandoned because I enjoy thinking up all the ways it could have ended, or just enjoy it as it is.

SO! Does anyone else want to share a wip they're following? Share the love, or just get more people to read some beautifully written, great stories they might otherwise passover; new, old, ancient...just rec away!

'And I'm Your Lionheart' is one of the first Hobbit fics I read and is still one of the best. It doesn't update often but it's beautifully written and imo it's as in character a fic I've seen for this fandom. I hope the author finishes!

And if you've been following Seasons in the Sun on Ao3, that's why. The author posts on the kink meme then cleans it up for A03 later. :)

I've started reading 'And I'm YOur Lionheart' and it really seems promising!

Actually, I just kind of messed up and always looked for updates for 'Seasons in the Sun' under a comment that wasn't the one new chapters were being added to. Needless to say, I had almost given up on that story. XD

And if you want to go really old school, there's the Harry Potter fic in which Harry disappears after touching a mirror and comes back a few minutes later seemingly no worse for wear. But what nobody knows is that he lived a lifetime in the mirror and is now mentally in his 30s and a warrior (who eventually was banging Snape after growing up -- this is the only Snarry fic I can stand). So he runs away, disguises himself and takes up a teaching post at Hogwarts while preparing to take down Voldemort and create a better world than the one he lived.

It began more than a decade ago and also hasn't been updated in 5 years, but I remain ever hopeful:

What if Harry had been born a girl? Very character-heavy, rather than plot-heavy, but it still has its interesting twists and turns! (Do not read if you don't care much for girl!Harry, Snape or Remus, though.)

Used to update almost frenetically (several times a week!), but now it updates at the still ridiculously-fast pace of once or twice a week, with a few hiccups every now and then.

Beloved - Final Fantasy VII

There is only one chapter left, but it's technically still a WIP! :V

Summary: FFVII, post DoC. Genesis/Cloud, one-sided Tifa/Cloud. It all starts when Cloud tries to leave during the middle of a Loveless performance.

It's more of a mystery/action piece than a shipping piece, but my goodness, can this authoress write awesome action scenes, suspense, descriptions, dialogues, everything. Her characterizations have spoiled for basically every other single fanfic in the fandom, forever. (Definitely check all her other works as well!)

Teach Your Children Well - Naruto

Kakashi goes back in time. I haven't kept up with Naruto well, but I believe this is an AU (as in, "the plot moved on and now we're wrong, oops" kind of AU).

Kakashi has... an interesting approach to things. This story plays with your expectations of a canon-rehash.

Supposedly a Kakashi/Iruka fic, but that hasn't happened yet.

It's Avengers, Tony-centric, Tony whump caused by Steve, Clint, and Natasha. If you decide to read it, be careful if you've bullying triggers. I'm very borderline w/it due to having been bullied myself, but I'm obsessed atm w/the fic, but it does make me anxious reading it.

thefrogg's Avenger's Omegaverse fic http://archiveofourown.org/works/438505 it's basically worldbuilding and PWP and an orgy fic, but I love that Clint is the omega, the object of desire for the Avengers in it. It's usually Tony or Steve in the orgies who's the focus. Doubt it'll ever be finished, damn it.

foxxcub's Bylines http://archiveofourown.org/works/417241 It's Avenger, Clint/Phil, but it's a journalism au. Love it to pieces. Updated very slowly and not often. Drat.

Gwyenhefar's Strength of the Wolf http://archiveofourown.org/works/448860 Avengers au, Clint/Phil, Clint's a werewolf, Phil finds out. Wish it was updated faster.

Trinity by windsweptfic http://archiveofourown.org/works/345479 it's Avengers, BDSM-verse, has a different take on it, slavery of Natasha, Bucky, and Clint by Hydra until they escape due to an Avenger's invasion of the base, mind control, and consent issues. I really like it and of all the wips I've listed so far, I wish this one would get finished the most. Just know that both Bucky and Steve were born in modern times along w/the rest of the Avengers; not in the past and no frozen in ice happened.

I usually don't read wips, but sometimes I don't notice/think I'm reading a completed fic only to find out the hard way that I'm not.

I'm excited about the WIPs I'm writing. :)

A massive Transformers shared universe, fusing a huge swath of canons into all the same story: an AU where Cybertron had no war. The worldbuilding and prose are top-shelf fantastic. The gist of it is that what is good for Cybertron is not necessarily good for the universe: the Transformers do not classify humans (or any organic life forms) as sentient and keep many of them as sex slaves (though they don't think of it that way). The shades of gray are amazing, including many sympathetic mechs, yet the authors never lose sight of how WRONG and HORRIBLE this all is. I can't wait to see where they're going with the plot, but at the same time I want them to keep it going as long as possible. Updates regularly.

Avengers - Being Human Series, The by Jaune_Chat. author's summary: For reasons of his own, Loki gives Tony's AI, Jarvis, a human body. What Tony didn't expect was to find himself trying to teach humanity to someone he'd programmed with his entire life.

Bleach - Project Tatterdemalion series, start here: Project Tatterdemalion by Vathara. author's summary: What if Hollows were caused by an alien virus? Sci-fi AU. Warning for gore, and some language.

Bleach - Time and Again by Mymomomo. Abnormality is my middle name, unfortunately. I'm the freaky white-haired kid who sees ghosts and talks to stuffed animals. The reincarnation of one of Soul Society's strongest warriors... Yeah, I wouldn't believe it either. Reincarnation had been nothing more than a theory, but it didn't even begin to explain why there was a dead Shinigami living in my head.

Bleach - To Be a King Once More by Maugan Ra. author's summary: [Highlight for spoilers for end of Arrancar/Winter War arc:] AU - What if, after the Winter War, it is not the Soul Reapers that restore Ichigo's powers, but Ichimaru and the surviving Espada?

HP - Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Futures Past by S'TarKan. author's summary: The war is over. Too bad no one is left to celebrate. Harry makes a desperate plan to go back in time, even though it means returning Voldemort to life. Now an 11 year old Harry with 30 year old memories is starting Hogwarts. Can he get it right?

HP - Marriage Stone, The by Josephine Darcy. SSHP. To avoid the machinations of the Ministry, Harry must marry a reluctant Severus Snape. But marriage to Snape is only the beginning of Harry's problems. Voldemort has returned, and before too long Harry's marriage may determine the world's fate.

HP - Resonance-Revolution-Resolution series. Start here:
Resonance by GreenGecko. Year six and Harry needs rescuing by Dumbledore and Snape. The resulting understanding between Harry and Snape is critical to destroying Voldemort and leads to an offer of adoption. Covers year seven and Auror training.

Howl's Moving Castle (book) - Woman True and Fair, A by The S. What might Howl's Moving Castle have been like if the 3rd person narration had been biased toward Howl's point of view instead of Sophie's? This is an exercise in what if.

Naruto - Born of Fire by emmykay. author's summary: As a firefighter, Naruto knows how to keep his cool in any situation. So how's the cute new cook making him hot under the collar? NaruHina. Rated for heavy innuendo and bad double-entendre. Goony, fluffy, AU wackiness. Submitted to Perpetual159's Dattebayo challenge.

Naruto - Replacement by Maria Rianki. author's summary: Starts Pre-shippuden. Danzo is not content with the shadows, and is always plotting in the shadows to take over the light... yet betrayal from within his own trusted ranks becomes evident. NaruSai fluff. Rated for future dark themes/violence.

Naruto - Team 8 by S'TarKan. What if Naruto had been selected for a different team? What if he'd had a different mentor? Who would guess the consequences would be so large?

Skip Beat! - Sho Business by DrunkenWisdom. author's summary: What if Sho had had to make an honest woman of Kyoko in order to get her to agree to come to Tokyo with him? What impact would this have on the lives of Kyoko, Sho, and Ren Tsuruga? AU, but it deviates from canon less than one might think.

The HP fics! Thanks for reminding me to read HP & the Nightmares of Futures Past and Resonance. I don't have much hope for The Marriage Stone since the author suddenly disappeared...

I hope you enjoy NightmaresOFP and Resonance as much as I do! ^^ My only quibble with the former is that the author stuck too closely to canon pairings. *sigh* But the rest of the fic is excellent, if a bit hard on Snape.

Yeah, The Marriage Stone is dead and abandoned. I'm glad it's still up for people to read, though!
