I leave kudos for things I really like. I read fic in a lot of fandoms that I'm not a part of, so I usually log out when I do it and leave them as a guest. As a writer I know it can be a little frustrating not to know who it was that liked the work, but I also prefer to know *someone* liked it even if I don't know who it was.

i don't mind people leaving kudos without commenting, i guess i'm just surprised that people left me kudos to begin with.

though yeah i agree it's be nice to know what they liked and didn't like, since i'd like to improve as a writer and that's why i'm sharing the fic anyway.

AYRT - I'm really uncomfortable communicating with people and don't like disclosing, well, just about anything. It's why I'm always anon on here, I have an anxiety attack if I even think about leaving a comment on someone's fic, and I'm not even comfortable leaving kudos when I'm signed in. I don't like anything tracing back to me. But I learned a week or two ago that if I sign out on AO3, I can leave a guest comment as long as I use a valid email address (I just use my throw away yahoo email address for it). AO3 didn't used to allow that, so maybe it's been around a while and more people are like me and didn't know? Also, some people just don't have an account and are probably unfamiliar with what AO3 does and doesn't permit. But now that I know about being able to leave comments, I try to do it more often so people know what it was I liked about their work.

I'd put a note at the end of your work saying "I'd love to get comments. You got crit for me, I won't be butthurt. Post away!"

Some people wait for permission before they'll say anything.
