Why do people always conflate shipping with smut and kinks and all that? Is it so hard to believe that some of us don't care about that stuff and like shipping just because we find the characters' interactions and relationships interesting?

Well I don't know where the OP is coming from, but on Tumblr, it's general consensus that shipping = wanting to see them bone. Kind of sad, really, especially since I like writing asexual characters and things like that, but there you have it.

This. I personally don't give a shit about smut. I actually find the "necessary" sex scenes boring as hell and usually skip them. What I enjoy is the character interaction, tension and chemistry. No sex required.
