For me, the problem with single-ship fandoms is that you're almost inevitably stuck with a will they/won't they that outstrips credibility.

My first OTP were teased for the entire length of the show. There was a sense that they were inevitably end game. And I adored them. They owned my heart. But now that I have a little bit of distance, I can't help but admit that the best explanation for why they had so many near-miss moments was because she wasn't really that into him.

The other alternative - that it was always the wrong time, or that there was an interruption of the week every week of their lives is just so implausible.
