Agree to disagree, I think. One ship fandoms are my least favourite, and megaships creep me out (fandom hiveminds of that magnitude are scary, okay?).

The fandoms I tend to stay in longest are ones with medium-to-large ensemble casts with a good selection of interesting character combos. I usually pick a couple of favourite characters and write/read them with everyone. A couple of favoured pairs might shake out of the mix, but usually it's favourite characters in about five or six favoured combinations apiece.

Of course, I started out in Harry Potter. Which taught me to fear the OTP, never get involved with ship wars, and pair lots of characters in lots of pairs, at least partially to spread the flak around. Eh. Formative fandoms, they'll do that to ya.
