I'm going to be searching for actual recommendations now. So far all I've found is "You should be fine as long as you avoid revealing or skintight outfits." You could probably get away with cosplaying a male character better than a female one, because the focus is (usually) less on their body, but any female character who dresses in modest/loose clothing would work.
