If you don't have thick skin, you're just setting yourself up for a rough day. Even "gorgeous" cosplayers get snickers and you gotta be able to say fuck the haters. Cosplay is all about getting attention so maybe just it'll never be your thing.

This. If you're not comfortable with your body, then cosplay isn't for you. Think about it for a moment: it's a hobby where the entire focus is on your appearance. You don't have to be a twig but you DO have to be comfortable in front of people and cameras in whatever you're wearing. Otherwise you're just setting yourself up for misery.
