Yikes, you kind of missed the whole point of his character. He is SUPPOSED to be the Clark Kent type, to contrast his animalistic violent werewolf side, he is a kind boy who always does what he feels is just and right. That's pretty much the point of the entire show.

Probably missed it while re-watching all of the seconds that Stiles and Derek spent together to play up their epic (apparent) man-love.
