Your fictional heroes from when you were a little kid

(Anonymous) 2013-03-18 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Who were your first fictional heroes when you first started to read and/or watch proper movies and television? Do you still have a soft spot for those characters?

Vegeta. VEGETA!!! VEEEGGGEEETTAAAA! I still love him so, so, so, so, much. He was my first ever crush and I think why I have such a soft spot for (fictional) asshole heroes.

Luke Skywalker definitely as a kid, and Clark Kent (New Adventures of Lois & Clark recipe), kind of. I still have soft spots for them, but I recognize now that Zen Master Luke can be exceedingly bland and that L&C Clark is even more awesome than I thought when I was a kid.

Umm I paid like NO attention to the actual characters of my books. Plots were all that mattered.

It never quite went away until I started reading "adult" literature. And in some books I still don't give a flying fuck about the heroes.

Serena (or Usagi, though I watched the dub as a child so I remember her best as Serena) from Sailor Moon. She still holds a special place in my heart

Sydney Carton, although that may have been less hero and more fictional crush, the kind that develops before realizing that self-pitying alcoholics are actually really annoying.

Does Hermione Granger count? And yes I still love her.

There was this girl from a Swedish book series I really liked though, I'm not completely sure what the book series is called in English, but it was awesome and one of the first books that where longer than 100ish pages that I read. It's been ages though and I don't remember that much, I was like 10 when I read it.

Other than that, I dunno? I didn't (and still don't) have a lot of fictional heroes so to speak. I got a lot of fictional characters I love, but usually I like characters I identify with on some level, which makes me fear for my love of Mickey from Shameless US really.

why does my comment always end up being mini essays? I should probably work on that

Watched a lot of super sentai shows when I was a kid. Maskman, Shaider, and Mask Rider Black. :D

Xena and Gabrielle, and of course. (Though I haven't watched the show in far too long.)

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!

I guess I kinda do still like Big Blue, even though Green Lantern and Nightwing are my favourite heroes these days. (Also a soft spot for Impulse -- he's just a straight up funny kid.)

Arnold (and the rest) from The Magic School Bus, and yes, I still have a soft spot for him. :3

Also, Eugene Meltsner from "Adventures in Odyssey". I don't even know why, he was such a nerd, and sometimes he was kind of a dick, but I liked him more then any of the other characters.

Also! The heroes of the Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, but I really got into them more when I was an early teen, so I'm not sure if it counts...

Tasha Yar from Star Trek: TNG. Gadget from Chip'n'Dale Rescue Rangers. I really liked girls who got to go out and do stuff, and HELL YES, I still have a soft spot for them. They're great, although in some ways I feel like Rescue Rangers holds up better than TNG does.

Hans Solo and Indiana Jones. (I had a raging crush on Harrison Ford, if you couldn't tell.)

Rachel from Animorphs. She was so kickass and cool and pretty, I wanted to be like her when I grew up.

I still like the character, but I kind of side-eye past me for wanting to be like her. Rachel was not the best role model.

Disney's Robin Hood. Oh, the formative years I spent in my yard, playing at archery and being one of Robin's Merry WoMen.

Robin's still my hero, though I now prefer the '80's pagan version that was portrayed in the British series, Robin of Sherwod (or Robin Hood, depending on where you saw it). I still collect Robin Hood novels, posters, and movies (except for Costner's, which is only amusing for the Sheriff of Nottingham, and his delightful tirade about the Celts, and the whining about Costner's stunt butt in the skinny dipping scene).

I had tons of literary heroes, but the first thing that comes to mind with your question are superheroes, and in that case, I'd go with the girls of the 90's X-men series.

A little after that, I got into Sailor Moon and I loved all the girls there, but specially Mercury and Jupiter. <3

Kim Possible, Pippi Longstocking, Milo Thatch, and all of the Powerpuff Girls.

...yeah, I think I had pretty good taste.

Darkwing Duck. Yes, I have a permanent soft spot for him and his immense, loveable ego.

Punky Brewster, Marty McFly, and Alex Mack are some of the... less embarrassing ones that come to mind. But it wasn't as much about their personalities as I just wanted to be a telekinetic time traveler with crazy cool clothes.
