Yeah, it really bugs me when I see people ask an author to de-anon. If the person wanted to be known then they probably wouldn't have posted anonymously in the first place, would they? *headdesk*

The one time I've seen someone ask an author to de-anon on a meme, the author responded positively and seemed flattered to have been asked. But I can see how this could also have gone badly, if that person had been bugged about de-anoning in the past and never wanted to do it, or if the person asking had been rude. It's awful that some people think they can hound someone over something like that.

I see your point, I've seen situations too where an anon has grown confident enough to de-anon through positive feedback and the like and that's absolutely lovely but on the whole, asking someone to reveal themselves just seems a bit off to me, no matter how well intended it is, especially when the anon wishes to remain anon.

Yeah, I don't think I'd ever ask someone to de-anon, personally; in fact, I didn't even realise it happened until I saw it, because it simply didn't occur to me. I wouldn't mind being asked (so long as the person got that I had the option and right to say 'No'), but I can't know how someone else would take it, so it's best not to... If someone's posted anonymously, I'm going to assume they're cool with staying anonymous. That way, I won't accidentally stand on anyone's toes.

I don't mind at all if someone asks me to deanon, if I have other work they might enjoy, or if I intend to use a sockpuppet to claim my fills or something. It's just when they pester after I've clearly stated no. It doesn't bother me if it's on a new fill but if someone asks again or tries to pressure me on the same fill's comments where I've already stated I'm staying anon? Not cool.

I feel the same way about being asked, though since I've only used anon memes a handful of times and my writing is hardly brilliance, it's never actually happened. I'm sorry people have pestered you about it. That's just rude.

I wound up in a sort of de-anoning dance with someone who filled a prompt of mine because I wanted to co-write a much more complex sequel with her. That was kind of a pain, but the result was worth it XD
